Tried running the nlited XP install that I made as well as a standard XP install from a USB external DVD drive and I kept getting a BSOD pci.sys error. This same hardware setup worked fine to boot up eeeXubuntu via Live CD so I am not sure why the XP installer won't load. I tried the nlited version on a regular PC with a 2G hd partition and it works fine. This does happen to be an older version of XP(no SP2) so maybe that version of pci.sys isn't compatible with some piece of hardware on the eee. Anyone else run into this?

Figured it out. It was indeed the old version(non-SP1 or 2) that was causing the problem. I streamlined SP2 in using nLite and I can now get to the drive partitioning section. Now I just have to decide whether or not to install it to the internal SSD or wait until my SDHC card shows up and install it on that.

XP won't easily install and run from the SDHC... P Yeah, I installed XP briefly on the internal SSD and it was fine until I let windows update start dl'ing/installing security updates. SSD was full before I knew it. Went back to Xandros with advanced desktop enabled. My wife likes mine so much I ordered her a white 4G surf on which I will install XP for her. The best part is that I will get to play with it too. |

Hi!
This is my first post and i would like to say this forum is so well filled with usefull info! Great job! I am looking to install Windows XP Home on a 2G surf. I am unsure what exactly to remove and keep from an original Windows Xp cd with nlite. What should i keep and what i want to keep... 1- What is a must to keep? 2- Is WMP can be replaced by another lite yet fully functionnal player even dvd player? 3-Can i use my old Windows XP cd? (no SP2 no sp3) 4- After installing XP, should i keep xp as is, or is it possible to let it run windows update? 5- What about microsoft licence number (key)? Thank you in advance. Thank you in advance. 1.Keep all of the system drivers to be safe but you can toss stuff like printer drivers and other external devices that usually come with drivers on disc. Get rid off all the language support that you don't need and if you don't use the windows help stuff(worthless most of the time anyway) you can toss that stuff as well. Toss all the sample stuff too and any programs/add ons you know you won't be using. 2.You might try something like WinDVD or similar that usually come free with DVD drives. There are other free players out there as well available for download. 3.You need at least SP2 I believe(not sure if SP1 works)or you will get a BSOD during install. Download SP2 from microsoft's sys admin section and slipstream it in with nLite. 4.Don't let it run all the updates at once. You will have to install maybe 10 or so at a time and then delete the temp files they create each time. Also, make sure you turn off system restore(you can do that with nLite) and once you boot up turn off the page(swap) file. It isn't needed and will prolong the life of your SSD. 5.You will need a valid XP license/key. |
