OK OK
TO ALL MY SPRINT BRETHREN WHO ARE PLAGUED BY THE MUCH ANNOYING MESSAGE OF INADEQUATE PERMISSIONS . . .

I HAVE YET TO FIND SOMETHING TO REMOVE THIS, IF ANYONE KNOWS PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE. THE APP UNLOCKING FOR OTHER PROVIDERS DOESNT WORK !!

i have figured out that all of these grat nifty home screen installs are just cab files telling the phone where to put things and what does what.

All you need is a registry editor i suggest PHM Registry Editor
And time and patience. Oh and this great and nifty link
http://rumkin.com/tools/sprint/index.php
I will refer to that link as UPLOADER

1.) Download your prefered HOMESCREEN ENVIRONMENT TO YOUR PC
2.) CHANGE THE EXTENSION TO .CAB IF ITS NOT .ZIP
4.) EXTRACT THE FILES TO A FOLDER
5.) THERE WILL BE SOME SORT OF SETUP.XML FILE, OPEN IT WITH NOTEPAD IT
IS THE ROADMAP TO WHAT AND WHERE THE FILES WILL BE INSTALLED

EX:// YOU MAY SEE SOMETHING LIKE THIS

WHICH MEANS THE FILE IN THE ZIP DIRECTORY NAMED SCREEN~2.024
IS GOING TO BE NAMED SCREEN-NAME.JPG

PART 2

=================

EX 2 :// THERE MAY BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS ALSO

ITS ABVIOUS THAT THIS IS A REGISTRY VALUE CHANGE, BUT IT POINTS TO A FILE
IN A SPECIFIC DIRECTORY. WE SPRINT USERS HAVE \STORAGE\... NOT \IPSM\
BUT YOU GET THE IDEA WHERE TO PUT THE ASSOCIATED FILE AND WHAT REGISTRY VALUE NEEDS TO BE CHANGED. ALWAYS BACK UP REGISTRY

AND THIS PROCESS ISNT FOR THE QUICK FIXERS, ITS FOR THE PEOPLE LIKE MYSELF WHO REFUSED TO BE TOLD "YOU CANT DO THAT"

6.) once you get all your files renamed and ready to go. Go ahead and select them (all except the original setup.xml) and add them to a zip file. Name it whatever.

7.) NOW you need the UPLOADER but, the uploader only accepts certain files right, right. Change the extension of the zip file to MP3

8.) Gotot the UPLOADER and send the file to your phone. It will download it and then try to play it in WMP not to worry. Just hit the HOME BUTTON

9.) Open Smart explorer and goto \strag\application data\volitale
The file will be here, why becuase its going to erase it in a short while, after A reset I think. renaame the file (ONLY CHANGE THE EXTENSION BACK TO ZIP)

8.) Copy the file to \storage\application data\home

9.) slick the file it will unzip all its contents.
If the homescreen you have has registry changes, you will need to create the necessary folders and move the files to the appropriate directories for it to work
If not the you are all set to goto Settings, Homescreens and change over

VIOLA !!

To any HOMESCREEN MAKERS: I APOLOGIZE FOR CHANGING YOUR FILES BUT I KEEP THEM IN THE PUREST FORM I ONLY CHANGE THE WAY THEY INSTALL, YOU ALL HAVE BEAUTIFUL WORK AND I WANT TO ENJOY IT !!!!!

PLEASE LEAVE FEEDBACK

Wow no responses huh ?
This process has worked for me
I am still trying to port a rather large one to my phone
Since I lost my data cable I have to do it manually
Which is the way my instructions detail it.

All of this is much easier with active sync

I wouldn't worry about the slow response. Only a small proportion of members here own the i600.
This is great work by you though and, since I've failed to help members with this problem before, I'm going to pin this topic to the top of the forum.
Thanks

I just got the i600 and stumbled across Modaco (great site by the way!) in my quests for customizing my phone. I'm another retched Sprint PCS customer and I'm dying to install some of these homescreens. Has there been any further discovery on easier ways to do this? If not, how should I do this with ActiveSync and a data cable. Any help would be great.

WITH ACTIVE SYNC AND A DATA CABLE YOU CAN JUST BASICALLY DOWNLOAD THE HOME SCREEN.

OPEN THE CAB FILE WITH WINZIP, EXTRACT ALL FILES
THEN YOU HAVE TO GO ABOUT THE PROCESS OF READING THE SETUP.XML
TO CHANGE THE FILE NAMES TO THE CORRECT ONES
AFTER THAT JUST SYNC YOUR PHONE WITH YOUR PC AND COPY ALL THE FILES EXCEPT THE SETUP.XML INTO THE \storage\application data\home FOLDER

AND VIOLA !!!
IM PRETTY GOOD AT REVERSE ENGINERRING THESE THINGS
MAKIN THEM, I LEAVE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE

Hi, I came across this post in a google search. Hopefully you can help me (and maybe yourself).

I have a Sprint i600 and have purchased a spectec SD wifi card. They supplied me with the smartphone drivers, but they will not install with an error message of "Installation failed. The program or setting cannot be installed because it does not have adequate permissions."

I am assuming this is a security issue. Anyhow I have the cab file and it does have a XML file in it. I am pretty clueless technically but was hoping you could make this work. PM me (or email me at spinedoc777@hotmail.com) and I will send you the smartphone drivers. Spectec also has a SD bluetooth card, but I havent asked yet if they have smartphone drivers, but maybe will work for them also.
