QUOTE
Today we have got explicit confirmation from Samsung people, that the only phone made by Samsung and powered by Microsoft software will run Pocket PC Phone Edition, and NOT MS Smartphone 2002. This information has been also confirmed by our other sources

You can never dismiss microsoft (not even if your Samsung)

I like the Samsung... smile.gif

PPC Phone edition is Pocket PC with GSM features. SmartPhone is the WinCE back end (same as PPC), but the interface is based more around the phone features than the PDA...

SmartPhone devices have always been a "phone with PDA features", whereas PPCPE is a "PDA with phone features"...

Heh, sorry. smile.gif

As far as i understand it Pocket PC and SmartPhone are both based on what was Windows CE. PocketPC phone edition is a PDA operating system with phone features "bolted" on.

SmartPhone is specifically designed for use as a phone, but as it is still based around Windows CE it still has PDA funcitonality (Pocket IE, Pocket OL, high res colour screen etc).

Hopefully that makes more sense smile.gif

Richie: thats one of the features of PocketPC that was reduced for the phone version. The "standard" screen resolution for PocketPC is 320x220. Stylus input is another removed feature. Don't forget the SmartPhone operating system is designed for one-handed use (imagine trying to reach over witho ne had if the SPV's screen was 2x the width...)

MARKUKCOUK, nope, as mono said, there is differences, the main one being the stylus input of the pocketpc, and the screen width, so it is impossible to run pocketpc os on the smartphone (hance the two seperate versions) smile.gif

Samsung are developing a PocketPC Phone Edition phone, the i700. It is PDA size and shape.

The i600 is the SmartPhone, it's a clamshell design, looks like the bomb and I WANT. But it's likely to be released as CDMA only sad.gif
