Hi,

Clove dispatched mine on tuesday, and for once Citylink managed to deliver on time to the right place smile.gif

I got it yesterday morning, and from the moment I opened the outer packaging and saw the diamond-shaped box, it has been a very pleasant experience.

Bad things (thing!) first - I cant get Mapopolis working without killing the speed. It doesnt 'see' the GPS on com4, and if I connect via GPSGate, it does work, but it slows the entire phone down to a crawl. This is the only program ive seen that can do this.

Im coming from a iMate Ultimate 9502 (which replaced a Kaiser), which has nominally the same featureset (hardware wise) as the Touch Pro, but its like night and day. The touch pro is /so/ nice to use. Im loving touchPro 3d, and the graphics accelerator makes it work very very slickly. Also its a /lot/ faster than the 9502.

The first day with a new winmob device says a lot. My first day with the Tosh g900 was horrible, crashing all the time, running of of ram and nothing working, bad screen, a very dispointing day... The kaiser was nice. I went on to hate the g900 and love the kaiser. The touch pro hasnt done anything silly yet - no lockups, no hangs, no lag when texting.

Good things:
1. Screen - vga, and non-recessed, finger friendly. Best screen ive used
2. 5 row keyboard - the keyboard is better than the kaiser / hermes - its most like the Universal, i can finally type fast again on winmo
3. Magnetic stylus - thats awesome, it sort of pulls itself home as you put it back into the unit, and holds itself in using magnetism
4. touch flo 3d is really practical
5. It looks fantastic, and feels right in the hand...
6. Its got QuickGPS (the 9502 is lacking that)
7. SDHC support - awaiting delivery of an ebay 8gig card
8. TomTom 7 works really well on it
9. Google maps 'my location' rough locator from cell towers works (didnt on 9502)
10. Stable, slick and fast
11. The iPod like touch sensitive d-pad - you can scroll by gently running yr fingers around the rim of the circle
12. KeyLock on holding phone hangup key for 3s
13. It comes on /straight away/ when you press the power button, and goes off immediately as well. the 9502 had a lag of about 2s each way, and sometimes didnt respond at all... very annoying it was

I havent even read the manual yet - im sure ill discover all sorts of other HTC enhanced goodness that i havent found yet as well..

moral of story for me is to NEVER buy a non htc phone again... then again the X1 looks kinda nice, but theres no way im surrendering this awesome keyboard for anything else...

anyway, ive concluded that HTC have a winner here...

hehe any doubts that I had about carrying on along WM (which usually == better functionality but worse usability) have evaporated with the Touch Pro... you will love it smile.gif

I cant wait to show it off to my mates in the pub tonight smile.gif

It's a great device. I've now used it for a full day at work with no problems whatsoever. (Apart from a bit of a learning curve, but nothing scary. The new stuff is generally easier to use than the old; I'm just not used to it yet!)

Yes, it's great. First time I've genuinely been able to use a screen with my fingers.

Yes! It just feels so cool. Whenever I pop the stylus back in, I have to do it a couple of times because it just feels so nice. biggrin.gif

Yup!

Where did you get TT7? I can only find 6!

Great, though it took me a while to work out that it was doing that! I was wondering why it was scrolling! biggrin.gif

I do appreciate the easy keylock. Now if only it would auto-keylock when turned on, it'd be perfect. (Anyone know a way to do this? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?)

They've clearly put a lot of work into this model. I keep finding little (good) surprises.

Anyone managed to get a UMTS signal on theirs yet? I haven't seen mine switch to 3G, even in areas where the TyTN II would've got a good 3G signal. Could just be coincidence of course, but it'd be nice to know whether there's a fault or not.

(I have checked that the phone is set to allow 3G.)

I'm in the UK.

Glad to hear your loving your new toy. A couple of question though, battery related. Does the battery run out quickly? how long would a full charge last you and what type of usage are we talking about. I know its still early days and testing hasnt really been done, but my touch pro battery uncertainty is the only thing holding me back from breaking the bank.
Cheers

Pick up your bank breaking hammer - the battery life seems excellent for a WM machine... normally when I get a new device i manage to empty the battary a few times, but this one is holding up really well (although like u say its early days atm).

Im not that supprised really - this design was made to work with a tidy 900mah battery in the Diamond, so we get 1 anda half times as much on the pro.

i got it down to about 50% yesterday, with some heavy internet + gps (google maps zoomed right in), a bit of youtube streaming, push email on all day, a few texts / emails and quite a lot of browsing. I can say with some certainty that no other [wm] device ive ever owned (including the 9502 with its huge 1800mah odd battery) could have done better...

had another nice suprise this morning - i plugged it into a pc for the first time (i usually dont need to thanks to OTA exchange sync), and it seems to have cardexport built in smile.gif it asked if it should be a activesync, a exported SD card (mass storage), or a modem smile.gif smile.gif smile.gif very nice...

Mine is fine now too. HSDPA popped up at lunch time, so it's working fine.

I agree with this. Mine is now on its second full day, and I've absolutely hammered it by playing with all the features. I didn't get it to drop below 50%.

There's a nice page on XDA-Devs wiki about costs: http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?p...Raphael_Vendors

Doesn't include £10 off eXpansys though! (although that's not going to last much longer)
