"The new Trimble Nomad packs even more functionality into the most powerful and full-featured rugged handheld computer available. Start with an 806 MHz processor, 1 GB of Flash storage, a long-life battery and integrated wireless capabilities like GPS, 802.11g, and Bluetooth. Then select an optional integrated laser bar code scanner and color digital camera. The Nomad also features a high-resolution, sunlight-visible VGA display that shows graphics and maps in crisp detail. And it's fully rugged and just as tough as our other handhelds which means the Nomad offers a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) than consumer-grade handhelds. The Nomad makes it easy to collect, save and transmit data in the field because it's available with so many built-in capabilities. Compute your location with the integrated GPS receiver for navigation applications. Quickly track your assets with the integrated 1D laser bar code scanner. Or capture color images with the 2 megapixel digital camera for inspection, maintenance and repair applications. Plus, you can use the Nomad's CompactFlash (CF) and Secure Digital (SDIO) slots to add even more devices. Trimble Nomad series handhelds are equipped with an integrated GPS receiver designed for productive data collection in difficult GPS conditions such as under forest canopy or near tall buildings. The Trimble Nomad series is ideally suited to applications, such as forestry mapping or natural resource management, where accuracy may be less important but high productivity is essential. You can also postprocess your GPS data with Trimble's professional grade office software. Postprocessing can deliver reliable 2 to 5 meter accuracy and is the best way to control the quality and consistency of your data. As part of Trimble's family of GPS solutions, the Trimble Nomad series is fully compatible with Trimble software solutions for professional GIS data collection and maintenance. Existing customers can continue to use the same streamlined workflows and DGPS infrastructure. Integrate your data collection workflow with a Trimble Nomad handheld. Because it's a Trimble solution, you have a single point of contact for service and support, and you can rest assured that you are equipping your mobile workforce with the quality and reliability that Trimble represents." Been out a year or so - noticed it in Celio's compatability list. 800Mhz! And people go diving with these things $2500 for a fully spec'd one with barcode reader, GPS and wifi... M.S |

It looks like something that should be attached to a JCB but is that the kind of handset you would want on a building site?

There are lots of rugged (IP67) PPC's around
http://www.industrial-computers.com/produc...eets/Archer.pdf is it's sister product and others can be found at http://www.store.wordsworth.co.uk/catalog/...PDA_s-33-1.html They are a specialised niche market and are the sort of thing you would want to use on building sites.... -------------------- He who asks a question looks foolish for 5 minutes. Well that told me then. Just seems like putting a top spec pc in a caravan, nice but dont you just need something basic until you get home.
