Hello,

Has anyone got Internet Calling working? It installs and shows up in the phone options and appears as a today plugin but even when enabled does not work?

Really would like to get this working!

Any advice.

Thx in advance.

Thanks I was using the cabs I used on my TytnII and this didn't work.

I'll try it and report back...

I've tried these two, among many others developed for HTC devices, but still can't get it to work on my Omnia.

Everything installs fine, I can set up my profile (SIP provider, account info, etc.), turn it on on the today screen and even get a notification of an incoming voip call for the first ring. Then when I click Answer to take the call, it disappears and on the other end the caller either gets my voip voicemail or a notification saying "service unavailable". When I try to dial out using IP phoning (I have call-out credit with my SIP provider - Gizmo/Sipphone), something similar happens. A call attempt is made, but then I get a warning message that it couldn't connect/service unavailable and the call is logged as taking 0:00 time.

This is roughly the same behaviour on both wifi and 3G. They both work on my TyTN so I know my telco isn't blocking the service.

Any hints? What am I missing?

This version seems to work for me (I have a Voipdiscount account), I was able to make a call at least. The problem I have is that it does not accept my numbers formatted as +CC... it requires 00CC mad.gif . I had the same problem with my Eten X800 though... any known workarounds except changing all my numbers?

Still no joy for me. Even updated my PDA firmware to HH1.

I'm using Gizmo/Sipphone (proxy01.sipphone.com) and am on the 3 network in Sweden. Anybody know of any problems with SIP-VOIP with either or both of these providers through the IP phone on WM6.1? What could I be missing?

After some more testing it seems that the WM6 VoIP program does not work for me either... I am able to call, but after 5 seconds or so that the call is going on (reasonable quality), my Wifi connection drops so the call gets ended.

What I have done is reinstall SJPhone, a very old program that for some reason gives great VoIP quality and is VERY customizable (more than I would like). The interface is not always the best, but as I said, the call quality is just excellent, even through UMTS.

SJPhone works well for me too. That is if I'm making the call or know exactly when a call will be coming in and can turn it on. Otherwise, if I leave it on for any amount of time, it sucks the battery like an effing blackhole.

Man do I wish we could get proper WM6.1 voip that actually works as well as voip works on Symbian. With my old E61 and my N95 8GB I could pretty much have it on all the time and be sure not to miss calls made to my voip call in number (receiving them on my mobile via 3G).

What version of SJPhone do you use on WM6.1? There is a beta and a very old release.
The old release says WM 2003 or something of that era.

Thanks,

Are you using skype with the headset or just on the phone?

I really want to do internet calling like a phone (i.e. holding it to my ear!).

I love internet calling on my WM6 Tytn as it works great. My Symbol MC50 is even better as it has a switch for speaker/earpiece....

Would be great if my i900 could work as well......

I used SJPhone, with other devices and always under the Wifi area, no with the 3G.

As one of you said, is a very old version, but is the last form the SJPhone.

Cheers. I'd tried the "stable" version and that "beta" and pretty much got the same results on battery.

What I really want is to have a VOIP solution that I can have on all the time via 3G and keep connected to my international call-in numbers (I live in Europe, parents live in the U.S.). Fring on symbian could do this and still let me get through the day on a battery charge. Fring was about 80% reliable in the connectivity department on my old TyTN, but now on the Omnia, even when the app stays alive, it loses connectivity minutes after power down.

WM6 VOIP from xda-developers won't even let me answer a call or call out on the Omnia. SJPhone will let me use my SIP account but it eats battery at about a rate of 10% per 30 minutes. That means that a charge would only last me about 5 hours with it always on. Skype is only slightly better (I'd estimate I might make it 5-7 hours on a charge). Fring would get me through the day - but no wonder, it's not connected!

What to do???

I have exactly the same problems using the files provided earlier in this thread. Also, after attempting any kind of VoIP call, the phone will just crash.

I decided to try an older version of VoIP for WM6 that I used on my HTC Wizard, and that seems to work just fine. No crashes, and managed to make an outgoing call over Wifi. Couldn't test an incoming call, but can't see why that wouldn't work. Couldn't test 3G either, since my subscription to that doesn't kick in for another 2 weeks.

I'll share the file below, it's originally made by Sleuth over at xda-developers.com. You can search for it there as well.

One tiny bug with it: The today screen plugin provided with it sometimes said 'Service Blocked' or got stuck on 'Searching'.. but the VoIP part worked just find regardless.

---
Slightly off-topic yet relevant: When making any call, the i900 will lock the touchdisplay after a few seconds (stating that you need to press the middle 'action' key to enable it), and shortly after that the the display goes blank altogether. When that happpened, my Wifi connection was cut off, thus ending the VoIP call. Anyone know of a method to prevent this?

Hope this helps..

Thanks for the post. I had already tried this one myself, but still get the exact same behaviour. Sleuth is a genious and it's not really his fault, but it irks me with this cab and the others that they cannot be uninstalled. I mean now after a quick test I've got 1.7 mb less of space to use in my device memory.

Did you do anything special to get it to make a call out? Beginning to wonder if my 3G carrier is blocking the easily visible SIP packets (Skype and Fring work ok on 3G). Have to test again on wifi.

Those settings your looking for are in Settings-Power. Under the Calling tab, disable the turn off screen option and under the wifi tab, disable wifi power saving.

Nope, nothing special. Although the previous package complained about not being uninstalled completely, but that might be because I didn't deactivate the today plugin before uninstalling it. Just went ahead and installed the WM6VoIP.cab, rebooted, and was able to make a call.

Will try 3G when my subscription for that starts on Oct 1st. Provider here doesn't want you to do VoIP over 3G, but I don't think they actually block it. WE'll see..

Thanks for the powersaving options, I'll have a look there!

I was able to make a call for 10 seconds then the connection dropped as mentioned in the previous post, changing the calling and wifi setting under the power mode didn't help either. any solution?
