Seems msmobiles.com has hit the jackpot this time. See here

Lots of info about the HTC Universal and Windows Mobile 5.

Highlights include the fact that the Universal will be branded by Orange as the SPV M5000 and that Windows Mobile 5 features in built compatibility with wifi and bluetooth keyboards...

This is the device I am waiting for! I decided against getting an ultraportable, in part due to this device. I'll admit, not a great part, but it was a consideration.

I can't wait for this device. As soon as its released, I'm going to look on my good friend eBay....

Might be a bit pricey but hopefully worth it.

I've been so pleased with the HTC Blue Angel (T-Mobile MDA III). It not only matched but went beyond my expectations. Here's hoping the MDA IV/SPV M5000 takes the platform even further!

Pretty impressive!

Im taking a look at wm2005 at the moment. Its a beta copy someone configured to run on the Himalaya.

So far after a week I am really very impressed with wm2005. It is faster than wm2003 and wm2003se on the Himalaya. the MS Bluetooth stack is much, much, better and even the handsfree profile works like a dream. Yes thats right handsfree not just headset!

I think that MS will be the way to go for all things pocketpc as far as corporations go. Whether you like MS or not its just too easy to get it all up and running.

Personally I love unix and linux but I have to say that MS really changed the face of computing with windows when it came out. If anyone can remember back to the good old DOS and novell/unix/xenix days where every application had different keys and menu systems and just buying a new spreadsheet application was a monumental event. In fact getting the job of your dreams might well have hinged on whether you knew where the / key was on a piece of software. Nowadays everything is simple. If you know one application you can pretty quickly get up to speed on another.

Now if we can just get some better quality control at MS central....wink.gif

How big is this 'phone' compared to a C500? I am looking for an upgrade path from the C500 at the mo, but I want to hold a PHONE to my head and not a PC!

This definately will not be a "hold to your ear" phone like the magician. The speaker phone, a BT headset and a wired headset are the Universals best friend biggrin.gif

This looks like a great device for daytime/work use but a bit much to take out socially. Since it is 3G is there any chance of using it in conjunction with a C500 on the same contract. ie. swapping the SIM between devices as required.

If not, might as well go for an M500 once they are available to us lowly small business customers.

Yeah, you can swap your sim to the C500 for normal calls.

My Nokia 8210 might get occasional use if I get one of these for those situations where I don't want to risk taking it.

Its *VERY* close to being the same size as the Blue Angel (just a fraction bigger, like, 3mm?)

But, the main problem is its MUCH heavier sad.gif
