Could you please guide me on finding a smart phone with the following features
1. Edit the contact list, tasks, appointments and the word and excel documents if possible on the PC by connecting the phone to PC 2. Keys + touch screen (touch screen is not a must) 3. Atleast 1MP camera 4.Good memory or with the memory/SD card slot 5. Simple design (instead of sliding key board- But do not mind) I do not need web browsing or email sending or mp3 player features - but donot mind if they are there Thank you |

there are hundreds of Windows Mobile devices out there to choose from that meet that unlike say an iPhone... here is what I would recommend. Narrow your selection down by only which wireless carrier's you would consider using first like who has the best coverage at the places you most likely use your phone such as home, office, etc.
My friends got a great phone only to find out that Verizon had extremely spotty coverage at their home. They ended up switching to AT&T and the same kind of problem. It turns out T-Mobile worked great for them. Do you have an existing contract that runs out soon? Are you willing to get a used phone? This post has been edited by pPCp: Mar 22 2008, 12:32 |

On your PC you would edit word and excel documents with Word and Excel. You can edit the native files of theses word and excel documents on a Windows Mobile device as well starting with ver 5 using Microsoft Office Mobile. A Windows Mobile device uses Outlook on your PC to do all your editing of the Microsoft Office Outlook Mobile data Calendar, Tasks, Contacts, etc. ActiveSync is the application that provides the software link to synchronize the data from the Windows Mobile device to your PC. Read more on Windows Mobile here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/software/default.mspx
You still need to make a determination of what carrier you want to use. Go to that carriers local retail outlet or online links to see your selection of Windows Mobile devices. If you want an unlocked non-carrier specific brand you might try a site like expansys and browse through the Windows Mobile smartphone selection http://www.expansys-usa.com/c.aspx?t=cat&f=84 There is a lot of form factor selection you need to consider. Do you want an exposed qwerty or one that hides? Browse here at the MoDaCo site under the various specific hardware forums and you will get a feel for what people are happy with. I currently use a non-touch screen model called the Blackjack II which I am happy with because it was important to me to have GPS. Good luck and happy hunting. |
