They said it couldn't be done... but it has (for some of you!)

If you are lucky enough to own a Smartphone with an Intel or Samsung processor (rather than the more widespread TI OMAP chip), then VITO have an application to turn your device into an infrared remote control!

Supporting devices such as the i-mate SPJAS, HTC MTeoR, Qtek 8600, Samsung i300/x, Mitac MIO 8860, Mitac MIO 8390 and the Sagem my s-7, VITO Remote is fully programmable to suit your particular configuration.

In VITO's own words...

QUOTE
VITO Remote is universal remote control software for your Smartphone.

With VITO Remote, you can use your Smartphone as an all-in one IR remote console to operate TV, VCR, DVD, karaoke, home theater and anything else including garage gates and video cameras. VITO Remote is easy to program and use.

Just as displayed on this picture: aim your Smartphone at TV and enjoy watching your favorite shows with VITO Remote!

main features

Fully programmable

VITO Remote can be trained using your regular remote control

Every single button can be programmed to perform a certain action when pressed like your TV, DVD and other remote controls. To learn a signal from original remote control, just send it from the remote control by pressing a correspondging button to your VITO Remote in the Learning mode. VITO Remote will record all acquired commands and store them separately for every piece of your electronics.

Universal control

Now you don't have to spend your precious time looking for a TV or Stereo remote control that looks exactly like this one for DVD Player or home theater. No mixing up and fussing around! All you need to do is pick out your Smartphone, point with it at any of your electronics and make it work. You can control all your home electronics with VITO Remote on your Smartphone!

If you're lucky enough to have a supported device (and really, don't try this if you don't), then head on over to the VITO Remote homepage to download a free 14 day trial, or to purchase for $15.95.

Let us know how you get on!

P (thanks Dr_StrangeTrick for the TIPoff)

Just to add to what Paul's already said, I tried this out earlier today on my C600 and it crashed it big time, so really, don't bother trying it on TI OMAP devices wink.gif

bah! well we all know that sooner or later they will create one that will really work on almost all smartphones! as we know there are some ppc applications that will run once on a smartphone and follow an infrared command.

Sorry, am I missing something here? Isn't the Hermes compatible with this? I'm nowhere near anything IR, but when I get home I'll try it out.. Seems to load and run OK.
