I just installed maniac's automatic keylock program but ran into issues with my BJII not being able to "hook the keyboard" aka the infamous "error 31." I went to the forums on maniac's site and people found a solution by downloading Hook Manager (http://www.mobiion.com/downloads.html#hookmgr). Automatic keylock now works like a charm, but when it is running my scroll wheel only wants to move up and down in the start menu (as opposed to side to side).

The change in movement is kind of annoying but I'm more interested in knowing what Hook Manager actually does. What does it mean to "hook" the keyboard and can I somehow change the settings of the movement of my scroll wheel when my keyboard is "hooked"?

fullsmoke, I also use both of these programs, but have noticed that the status icons of Automatic Keylock do not work properly in the BJII. The battery and signal status are stuck at 100% and the Alarm icon does not display when the alarm is set. I've been using this program in my HTC Tornado for while a while without a hitch, but in the BJII is a different story. I also noticed that I have to press too many keys to unlock the BJII and sometimes I have to press the soft-key to answer a call more than once when the phone is locked. The developer of AKL (maniac) appears to have abandon this precious app. He has not replied to the questions posted in his forum in a long time. Who knows, maybe he's busy with real work. I don't have any issues with the scroll wheel. Are you experiencing any of the issues I mentioned above?

I think all that hook manager does is to allow more than one application to share the keyboard in WM. Similar to when two applications share the same interrupt/API.

Btw, have you found any alternatives to Maniac's Automatic Keylock?

Do you have the latest version? I believe it is 4.02. I have no problems with the batter/signal meters and my alarm icon actively shows I have an alarm set. The main problem I have with AutoKeylock is the change in direction with my scroll wheel. Sometimes when AutoKeylock locks my phone, little oddities happen--like screen flashes or backlight flashes quickly/once. I haven't had problems answering phone calls or unlocking though.

Do you know exactly what Hook Manager modifies in order to allow multiple instances of the keyboard? I want to know so maybe I can edit it and correct the directional problem with the scroll wheel.

I have yet to find another program like AutoKeylocker. As of right now, I'm a little hesitant to use it all the time as it "feels" buggy and I don't like how it changes the direction of the wheel.

I'm using 4.02... I'm going to remove keylock and re-installed tomorrow to see what happens. Maybe I installed something afterwards that messed it up.

I don't know exactly what Hook Manager modifies, but you can unpack the installation .cab file and see if there are packed files that you can change. Maybe there are registry keys that the cab modifies that might be causing the problem with the wheel in your BJII. My rule of thumb, before I modify anything when an app is misbehaving, is always to first remove it, soft-reset the device, re-install app. and soft-reset one more time before testing. I have a friend at work that's is having some of the problems that I'm having with Automatic Keylock 4.02. I'm going to check if we have other apps in commun that might be confilicting with AK.

Ahh, good call--I completely forgot about unpacking the .cab and having a look-see. I also posted a topic over at mobiion (makers of HookMgr). I'll keep you updated. Let me know how your comparison with your friend goes!

fullsmoke, my friend at work is having "exactly" the same problems I have and we both have similar apps installed. After re-installing AK the battery meter on the AK screensaver works for while, but then it goes back to 100%. I think I read somewhere that there were some battery monitoring issues with the BJII. The icon on the top bar does not match the reading under Settings/Power Management. Btw, when you say that your alarm notification icon is working... you mean the alarm icon that appears on the "ScreenSaver" of AK when an alarm is set... not the icon on the top bar of the homescreen... right?

Sorry, I thought you meant the alarm icon on the homescreen. I haven't fiddled with the screensaver functions of AK. The time I have used it, my battery meter represented what was shown under Power Management.

The people at mobiion explained the hook manager a bit to me--I'm hoping to delve deeper and see what other information about it I can get out of them. As for now, I don't think I'm going to be using AK as it just feels too buggy.
