The GPS on my BJII works fine, but it seems to take forever to acquire a signal. I've tried using GPS Test, WLS, Google Maps, Garmin, but nothing helps. Any suggests to get the signal faster?

Nope dont think there is a fix for this, just make sure your outside and in clear view of the sky..it shouldnt take to long mine takes 10-15 seconds to lock onto atleast 3.

put it down too. don't hold it in your hand. i find when its sitting completely still, it acquires the signal faster. i find if i use the gps at the same time in the day as i shut it down last, it aquires the signal IMMEDIATELY (or within 10 seconds). if i turn it on later on, as long as its stationary and outside, it acquires a signal within 1-2 minutes, every time. its when i turn it on while I'm driving down the road that it can take up to 10 minutes.

Man I never suffer that long... Ever since I set it up properly initial lock is under 2 mins cold boot (outdoors) and roughly 3 mins indoors. Hot start is unreal...less than 10 seconds, if i go through the domain tunnel (Melbourne, Australia) I lose sats in 5 seconds....soon as I pop out the other side I'm back up and running in 10 seconds....no lies. My BJII has held 3 bars signal on commercial aircraft at over 500 klm/hr using Garmin....better than my old BT reciever (also sirfstar III chipset) as it gets faster it obviously cant keep up but it definitely has proven itself.... Best thing I ever did was remove all hacks and Hardreset!!! Since then it's flawless. |

I just started to try to get my GPS to work. I set everything up the way I've seen it done. So far GPSTest has been running for 5 minutes. Nothing has happened yet. Makes me think there's something wrong with the hardware. Not sure what else to do.
Edit: Tried going outside to my car and letting it do its thing for 20 minutes. Nothing. No satellites found. Such a disappointment. This post has been edited by thedef: Jun 6 2008, 19:56 |

In garmin, when u click on the satellite signal thing (the cingular raising the bar symbol) haha...and then menu, GPS info, and New location, and tell it where you are...(such as if you drive and forget to turn it on before, etc.) It will find you pretty quick.

I fashioned a hat from aluminum foil in the shape of a large satellite dish. I then soldered an atennae wire from the hat to the phone. If I run the wire under my shirt it's not too noticeable. It doesn't really help with the lock times, but everybody seems to get out of my way pretty quickly and thus speeds up my travel time.

Me it take between 2 mn until 20 mn.
It's not because of indoor or outdoor, when I m outside it take the most of time (impossible to locate something during a walk or in car). To optimize the search, I find these tips : - do not move it too more, it need to be at same place. - after around 30s at the same place, move it on another place and wait again 30s, and come back at the previous place, ect - search the first place with the power plugged. It work better with more energy and without the energy saving mode. |
