My first post here, and I am very glad to be a part of this forum.

I'm trying to be able to quickly toggle my screen brightness, somehow or another; via a button would be great, but I'd also be happy with a today icon. What I'm after is a slider or a repeat press.

For a few days I used HTC Home Customizer - which has an integrated "Adjust Backlight" 4-way toggle, but for some reason my HTC Home started causing a stall on soft reset startup (thank goodness for SafeStart for diagnosing!) and I've had to disable it. I'm going to troubleshoot this, but since I had found HTC Home a bit screen-greedy I'd actually rather keep it disabled and use alternative launchers/button mappers. However, I can't recreate that toggle any other way.

I've created a link to Backlight.exe (in cLaunch) but that only brings me to the control panel window. I often use my PPC indoors at low brightness and when I first use it in bright sunlight I can see only the most high contrast shapes and forms, so the control panel window is too hard to negotiate. I need something minimalist and foolproof, like a repeat-press toggle, or something with a high-contrast graphic. There are so many launchers available that I feel sure I could place such a shortcut into in a "mostly by feel" constistant area of the screen, but I can't even find the shortcut or command for brightness - what is HTC Home Customizer accessing? Any clues, even about how to search for clues, would be gratefully recieved, since I suspect from my googling so far that there is no ready-made solution to this.

Well, I worked out a decent solution. I mapped one of my buttons (the web'n'walk one) to <Backlight Setting>. (I have Vito Button Mapper installed, and I'm not sure if <Backlight Setting> is one of the native choices.) Now I can do it all by feel, using the D-Pad and the ok button, so even when the screen is suddenly too dark for the sunlight I can change it easily without tapping madly around hoping I'm hitting the right spot.

I use SPB pocket plus...and have one button mapped to toggle brightness... so it will step through all of the levels and then loop at the bottom...

I've also got the button mapped so if I hold it down it toggles the screen on and off.

How did you map the keys, what command line parameter did you use? I am interested in mapping my left softkey to toggle my brightness, and all I've been able to do is map it to the control panel app I'm guessing I'm missing a command line parameter(?).Thanks a Million...
