Welcome to the site smile.gif
There are no free map applications if you are refering to navigation, they all cost money.

PS no need to shout in your topic title wink.gif

Actually there is. Its called gpsVP, its a program that runs on free garmin map files. You can choose to download just your area map or any area of the world. It shows your location, speed, heading, sunset/rise info, altitude, odometer, battery, connection strength, the road your on, the roads around you, and you can set waypoints to different places.

Interesting, I've not seen that app before. May look into it further and give it a try.

Terracrosser will not work on the BJ 2. The Microsoft.Net Compact Framework version required is not compatible with the BJ 2. Or at least that was my experience with Terracrosser. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Both programs are compatible with the BJII. I downloaded the latest version of Terracrosser (2.0) and .NET and installed both on my BJII.
Terracrosser is working perfectly on my BJ. It took a bit to figure out how to properly download the maps but once you get the hang of the Mapper program it is pretty easy to use.

I drove home for lunch and once the GPS got a lock it was able to follow my position on the maps I created/downloaded.

Very cool program since you can download Google or Yahoo maps on your PC and then upload them to you BJ, which is great for those of us that do not have a data plan!! biggrin.gif

I don't feel like such a newb anymore!! Hooray!

Is it possible to use the Mapper (Terracrosser ) module to download the maps then use thsoe maps with gpsVP?

I installed both gpsVP and Terracrosser, but i can't figure out how to use gpsVP. Where do I install the maps in order for gpsVP to notice them?

Also, in gpsVP, what settings do I change so it doesn't try to connect to the internet and start downloading stuff so my service provider can charge me like craazy? Also, do I have to set the port to COM4 on the gpsVP?

Simply disable "Allow internet connection" in the setup menu.

This doesn't require the phone to be connected to the internet does it? I've been wanting a GPS program ever since I cancelled my internet package...and I'm currently too lazy to go legally obtain Garmin again. So, is this a free and legal solution?
