Hi Everyone,

Pretty simple question, but finding the answer isn't so easy. (Possilby some of you guys who have dared pop the case wink.gif , may have a better idea)

Is the external antenna connector connected to the Wifi module or is just for GPRS and the Calls?

Also, is it an MCX connector?

If this is not the case, has anyone seen any mods to gain better Wifi range, or does anyone have any ideas on how it might be done?

Regards,
Aaron.

Last night i popped open the case, and had a bit of a look around, and I did see two other parts on the mainboard, which appear to be like antenna connectors.

So I'm wondering if these are Wifi.

I didn't take any pictures though.

I'll pull it apart again tonight and take some photos.

Has anyone seen these before?

It's more likely to be for aerial for the phone, not WiFi.

Ok. I opened it up again and firstly here are the pictures of the connector.

Attached File  Connector1.JPG ( 81.33K ) Number of downloads: 22

It's located just near the MCX Connector for the Phone's antenna.

However there is another of these strange connectors when you flip the mainboard over on the other side near the camera button and volume slider.

But then i noticed what appeared to be possibly a mini copper antenna located at the top of the phone near the speaker and LED...

And here is the insert in the case where the copper device petrudes.

Does anyone have any ideas on whethere this is in fact an antenna, and if so possibly for Wifi?

(Who knows, I could be dreaming)

Pic #1 and #2 - with the blue paint around it - it doesn't look like it's for aerial or wifi because it doesn't have any screw thread to screw it in. Looks like it's something that you "plug" into it.

But what for - no idea. Only HTC will know. Have you asked them?

I think pic 1 and 2 show an antenna connector, and the one with the blue around it maybe something like a test connector location for factory checking. Not sure though. Pic 3, 4, 5 look odd. I don't think it's an antenna.
