Back up one level...

MP3 files need to be in the root directory on the card.

Straight out of the box there will be a SIZE LIMIT (don't recall what it is). Larger MP3 files won't work but you can edit the registry and simply remove the size limit key and use any size file you want.

I have dozens of sound files on mine that all work fine.

So...

1. Move files straight onto the card (NOT in any folder)
2. get a registry editor - this one works great! (works from your PC with Blackjack connected)(http://www.breaksoft.com/Blog/Utilities/20...try_Editor.aspx)

3. navigate to and remove the following registry entry:

Go into HKEY_Current User → ControlPanel → Sounds

Then open the "Values" button to display the values

Delete the key of FileSizeLimit

Now, just like magic all your MP3 files show up when you try to assign a sound to ringtone or alarm or any system event.

Hope this helps,

Terry

Thank you! This hack is awesome! I set up MP3s for my ringtone, my emails, and my voicemails. I love that they play through the whole song too and not just 30 seconds (might get annoying later, but probably not, its Metallica). However, when I check a voicemail as the song is still playing, you can hear the song still play while your listening to your voicemails (now that can get annoying). Plus when you log out of your mailbox, if the song isn't finished, it keeps playing. I guess Ill have to figure out how to get to the mp3 player options to quickly end the song....haha

If the steps above don't work:

Okay, in the registry editor, do everything above, but double click on FileSizeLimit and change the value from the 300kb to 9999999, which should be large enough to play any song you would like.

After this, on your phone, go to "My Stuff" and find your music, even if it is on the Storage Card, Highlight it, Click the right soft key...Menu button, Set As...RINGTONE!!

This should do it!

Hope it helps

It worked fine but how do you play mp3s when you get a new text message instead?
