Resco Explorer is one of my very favourite apps on my device. As well as being a great File Explorer with tons of features, it also includes an excellent registry editor and FTP client. Resco have recently announced the Resco Explorer 2008 Beta, and they'd love your feedback!
Here's a lil something I stumbled across while looking for spares for my StrTrk a few days ago... I think this Orange TyTN II case looks great! It's OEM too, which is interesting, as it makes me suspect that someone, somewhere will be launching a TyTN II in this colour. It looks similar in colour to the Softbank X02HT don't you think?
Anyway, that aside, who's going to be the first to spring for $79.99 and then be brave enough to dissect their Kaiser? I think it'd look SWEET!
Not from HTC (as yet), but in the next couple of days the file 'RUU_Kaiser_HTC_WWE_3.28.405.0_radio_sign_25.83.40.02_1.65.16.25_Ship.exe' that you can find here will also become available via official channels!
The update is for HTC TyTN II devices, and will be followed later by a AT&T branded update. The update adds Windows Mobile 6.1 with improvements such as the 'Getting Started' wizard, Threaded SMS and general performance and battery life updates, as well as HTC's 'video performance' update. So what's it like? Performance IS improved, however with no real video acceleration, don't get your hopes up TOO much! Thanks to tweaks in 6.1 in general plus HTC's optimisations, the device DOES feel a lot slicker in use, although if you are coming from a 'cooked' ROM you have probably seen the speed improvement already. If you are still on the standard 6.0 ROM, you NEED to install this
I've included some screenshots and version information below... enjoy
Hurrah, the day is finally here... I have in my hands a Celio Redfly!
The Celio REDFLY Mobile Companion (detailed here) is 'a sleek clamshell design that includes an 8" display, a full function keyboard, and a touchpad mouse. Measuring just 1x6x9 inches and only 2 pounds, the REDFLY Mobile Companion offers over 8 hours of battery life and boots instantly! It also adds three new features - instant VGA output, access to USB flash drives, and the ability to charge your smartphone via USB.'
I'll be using it primarily with my HTC Kaiser, but it's pictured here connected to the latest hotness, the HTC Diamond!
The REDFLY is priced at $500, which some have said is a too high pricepoint. As prices of Eee type devices continue to rise and bearing in mind that as you upgrade your mobile devices in the future the REDFLY continues to work (therefore becoming a longer term investment)... does this seem more reasonable? That's my current thinking, but i'm interested to hear your thoughts!
Stay tuned for a full review coming soon, but hit me with any questions you have in the interim!

PS Don't forget to check out the Celio Interview if you haven't already!

If you are a .net Compact Framework developer, then you'll know that up until now it has been very hard to profile your code for performance, something that is very common on the desktop.
Well, thankfully there is now a tool courtesy of EQATEC Profiler - which is now available, FREE!
In their own words...
QUOTE
At EQATEC we are experts in embedded development, both native (C/C++) or managed (C#). We have completed many large .NET CF projects. We have the only Microsoft embedded MVP in Scandinavia. We've been doing embedded development for about 10 years now.
In 2006-2007, when developing a really large .NET Compact Framework application in C# for Windows CE, we looked around for a .NET CF code profiler. Surprisingly there were none. All we found were memory-profilers, i.e. for tracking object allocations and memory usage. That's useful too, but not if you want to pinpoint bottlenecks to improve your application's performance.
So we built our own code profiler. And it works really, really well.
We've used it for a year on this particularly large application (7-8000 methods in 40-50 DLLs) and easily found and fixed performance bottlenecks that would have been very hard to spot without a code profiler. We've even integrated the profiling-step in our autobuild. The profiling-step is very quick and the profiled code is only 40-50% bigger and runs 20-25% slower. Profilers can easily make your code run 2-10 times slower, so ours is quite efficient.
Because it works so well, and there are no other code profilers like it, we decided to make it available to all other .NET CF developers. And we decided to do so for free, so it won't cost you anything. Just download it and start optimizing your own application, or try profiling the demo-app we’ve included.
One reason for giving it away free is to get some idea about how much demand there is for tools like this. Therefore we'd kindly ask you to register the download, simply to give us some idea of how many developers - and in what kind of businesses - will find this tool useful.
In recent months / years it has been reported that TomTom development is dead for Pocket PC, but it appears that isn't the case, as TomTom is expected to shortly announce TomTom 7 for Pocket PC!
Very little information is available at this point, aside from the fact that the new version will come preinstalled as a 'taster' on the HTC Diamond in some territories and, um, i've seen it - so I know it's real!
We'll have more info online as we get it!

Edit: O2 Germany have already confirmed they will ship with TomTom 7 and one included city map.
The mobile devision of Gigabyte, a company famous for their range of PC components, have launched a great little competition to renew interest in their GSmart range of devices.

GSmart’s Innovation and Creativity GSmart Creative CF Competition - Show your creativity and Win a GSmart PDA phone!
GSmart, the innovative PDA phone supplier, has extended its lively image and brand color onto the product package, website and also the event held in some countries. The innovative image has inspired some GSmart users to develop two short films for GSmart based on their perceptions of GSmart products. Both short films are showing on the GSmart event website and are presented with creativity and sense of humour, the films also clearly shows the niche features of GSmart t600.
The film ‘delicious t600’ casted a piddle dog that has addicted to the dog food picture taken by t600, which represented the outperforming VGA screen of t600; the skinny and fragile looking dog surely has catches the viewer’s attention. The second video presented the niche TV function of t600 by comparing the technology in different era and the evolution of technology, a clever way to show the feature of the product and also praising the great innovation of GSmart.
Inspired by these video clips, GSmart decide to hold an event to invite more creative ideas and also wish to learn more about end user’s perception about GSmart product via this event.
Win a GSmart device by showing your creativity:
GSmart is holding a creative CF competition from 20th May to 20th June. The online event is to invites global end users to show their creativities by creating a commercial film for GSmart products. GSmart stated that the film does not need to be professionally made, but the contents must convey a positive message about the product, also the originality and creativity are the major judging criterions. 10 GSmart devices are waiting to give away!
GSmart has set up a GSmart group on Youtube where participants can upload their video onto the youtube group and register the participation on GSmart event website from 20th May to 20th June. Top 10 videos will be selected and announced on 30th June, the judgers will evaluate the videos based on 4 criterions – Originality, creativity, popularity and quality, and the winners are able to win a GSmart device!
Although the event starts from 20th May, the event website is ready to preview, the two video clips made by the GSmart fans are also broadcasting on the event website, worth to take a look!
I've just received the t600, MS800 and WM700 for review so keep it locked for more on those devices very soon. Also, Gigabyte tell me the MS800 and MW700 will be available in the UK very soon, with the t600 to follow.
Now, what are you waiting for? Go make some films!
Details are pretty thin on exactly what the range will contain, but HTC have told us that they are planning an ambitious accessory line expansion to coincide with the release of the HTC Touch Diamond.
The range is set to include the following (and more):
Device dock (see below)
Slip case with microfiber lining (to clean handset as you slide it in and out! - RRP £9.95, see eXpansys for details)
Extended 1340 mAh battery including replacement back cover
Car charger
If the picture on the HTC site of the device dock is anything to go by (see below), these accessories are going to be very nice indeed!

Fellow Möbius member Arne from the-unwired actually sums up the event very well...
QUOTE
If you haven't heard about Möbius before, it's an invitation-only community (with roughly 100+ members now) of the world's most influential technology pundits and online writers/bloggers, initiated some years ago by Microsoft. The yearly Möbius conference brings together around 25 Möbians which normally interact behind the scenes with companies, big and small, to shape the direction of devices, services, pricing, design and the culture of consumer technology.
As with every Möbius event, Microsoft will host a variety of speakers, from across the industry, who will talk about general mobility issues, industrial design, new applications and of course provide sneak peeks into future products and this time the attendance of some ODMs seems to be confirmed already as well as Microsoft will provide some further product and service updates.
However the best part of Möbius is having a very open and honest dialogue and even healthy debate about the industry, technologies and initiatives that are shaping the future of mobility especially because Möbius isn't about Windows Mobile only but Microsoft always invites a good mix of tech bloggers and journalists from different areas including Windows Mobile and Symbian as well as bloggers which covers a broader range of devices.
Initially initiated by Microsoft, Möbius became a self-runner over the years and it's not about the annual conference only but there is a strong interaction and friendship between Möbians during the rest of the year (for instance we meet once a year at the Mobile World Congress), including discussions and opinion-sharing.
Some of the sessions will be completely open and i'll be free to report on them, others will be governed by handshake-NDA, so I won't be free to discuss the content here. I'm anticipating we'll have some good tidbits of info for you once the event kicks off on Wednesday however, so stay tuned
As well as going along to the HTC Diamond launch this week, I was in London to attend the European Launch of MWg, the Windows Mobile company formerly known as O2 Asia and now backed by well known device store eXpansys.
At the launch MWg announced their Atom V and Zinc II devices, as well as offering up their device roadmap for those in attendance.
I captured the Roadmap presentation on video (as you can see), but also took a still you can see below (after the jump for news page readers!). Particularly interesting points...
- MWg plan to make a Smartphone - MWg plan to make a Shift-esque UMPC - MWg plan to release a lot of devices - MWg plan to release a WM7 device before the end of 2008!
If it's right (and let's be honest, the roadmap errs on the side of vague), that has to be VERY good news (and it'd be great to see another Smartphone released too)!
New broadband option offers free smartphone for web and e-mail on the move
BT takes broadband out of the home with the launch today of BT Total Broadband Anywhere, an all-inclusive package which offers a free, internet-capable smartphone – the BT ToGo – worth around £150, and BT’s Total Broadband service in the home.
From £23.99 per month1, only £5 more than the price of BT Total Broadband Option 3, the new BT Total Broadband Anywhere option delivers the most complete broadband experience, both at home and out and about – for surfing the web, sending and receiving e-mails, making calls or texting.
John Petter, managing director, Consumer at BT, said: “Broadband Anywhere customers get the total broadband experience – BT’s top-of-the-range broadband service at home, and a free BT ToGo smartphone for when out and about or on the move.”
“Communications services are converging, and it is clear that customers want consistent access to the things that matter not only at home, but in the palm of their hands wherever they are. When shopping, waiting for a train or having a coffee, Broadband Anywhere enables you to read e-mails, check the football score or compare prices.”
Broadband Anywhere customers get a choice of two stylish, full-function BT ToGo smartphones2 – the HTC S620 or S710 – both powered by Microsoft Windows Mobile 6. When in range of a WiFi hotspot, the BT ToGo connects to the internet at broadband speeds and provides cheaper calls through BT Broadband Talk3. When out of WiFi, there is a 10MB4 monthly download allowance, and the package includes 50 call minutes and 50 texts on any network at any time5. Larger minute and text bundle options are also available.
The BT ToGo integrates seamlessly with many other BT Total Broadband services, and is preconfigured with a BT e-mail address, although customers are able to set up other popular email accounts easily. In addition, the BT ToGo comes with mobile security software for comprehensive virus protection.
The BT ToGo boasts a built-in camera for taking photos and video clips, and comes complete with a media player so customers can enjoy their favourite music and videos wherever they go. It also includes BT Snap & Send, which means photos taken with the BT ToGo can be quickly transferred to a personal online BT Digital Vault so they can be safely stored or instantly shared with family and friends.
At home, Broadband Anywhere customers get BT’s premium Option 3 Total Broadband service, including a free, future-proof black wireless Home Hub with Hub Phone, download speeds of up to 8Mb/s6 with unlimited downloads7, advanced online security8, free 5GB Digital Vault9 secure online storage and free 24/7 customer support.
All Broadband Anywhere customers automatically join the BT FON WiFi community. Using any wireless device, including the BT ToGo, customers get unlimited WiFi access7 at more than 82,000 BT FON Hotspots in the UK, a further 190,000 hotspots around the world and over 2,500 BT Openzone hotspots10 in the UK and Ireland. A range of BT Total Broadband Anywhere packages are available, each offering BT’s top of the range Total Broadband Option 3 and an inclusive BT ToGo.
4. 10MB usage per month. Additional usage will be charged at £1.50 per MB. Any allowance not used during the month may not be carried forward. As a launch promotion, all BT Total Broadband Anywhere customers receive unlimited GPRS usage for no additional cost until 31 July 2008. After that date, customers will be able to choose whether they wish to continue with unlimited GPRS (at additional charge) or retain the 10MB inclusive allowance.
OMG BT what are you thinking?
At first site this seems pretty sound. A bolt on to your existing broadband = good, home hub = good, WinMo Smartphone = good, WiFi access = good, Digital Vaule = good I guess but 10MB per month usage cap = absolutely ridiculous, not to mention the £1.50 / MB over-use charges.
Anyone signing up for this?
P
PS As noted in comments, if you are an existing BT Total Broadband user, it's not a bad way to get a HTC Smartphone for a fiver a month...
