[Update: Device appears to be have been named the G500, as per this page at Toshiba Europe (link via CoolSmartphone).]

Following on from the announcement of the Portege G900, we've now been able to identify the Smartphone device pictured with the G900 (thanks Jason).

Detailed here at the FCC (gotta love em), the RG4-E01 (snappy name!) seems to pack the following specs:
  • Windows Mobile 5 Smartphone
  • Fingerprint Reader!
  • 3G + HSDPA
  • WiFi
  • 2.2" screen
  • 2 Megapixel Camera
  • Slider design
  • Toshiba VOIP (pictured below)
  • Light Sensor
  • 4 hours talk. 150 hours standby
  • miniSD expansion
A glance at the manual (also courtesy of the FCC) reveals the line "Congratulations on choosing the TOSHIBA RG4-E01, which is
customized for Vodafone live!"
. Now i'm not one to jump to conclusions, but that seems pretty concrete evidence wink.gif

Check out our pics of the device below, with more after the jump!

Updated with additional info from the Toshiba Europe page...

+ WiFi
+ HSDPA

Interesting to see them talking about using the fingerprint reader for menu navigation?

A 3G smartphone - this looks interesting...
I wonder if it will have WM65 by the time it's released?

looking at the info on the toshiba page, it states it will be shipped with WM5 not 6...

i'll wait for a full review, hopefully in the next few weeks, but it looks like i'll be chosing between this and the HTC Vox...
if either of them get released anytime soon!!!

I think you could be right about WM5 sadly.

Shame, as it looks awesome otherwise!

mind you, they may follow suite of some of the other manufacturers and release rom updates to bring it to WM6...

but releasing it with WM6 would appeal to more of the market...

HSDPA seems pretty nice. I also like the design, but IIRC from the FCC pictures this is pretty thick... 23-25 mm or something like that...

I wouldn't hold your breath - could be months away - and no ideas which network will have them. It would be a shame if it's not T-Mob tho.

Paul's post above indicates it will be on Vodafone, which'll be fine - if it was out in the next month or two then that'd be grand, but if not I'll get something else for a year and upgrade when all the bugs have been ironed out smile.gif
