Hey guys!
I've been given permission by Orange to let you know that the moderators and I are currently carrying out testing of a new update for the UK. The update, to be branded 1.6, has no firm release date yet, but will probably be within a few weeks. It has the same features that are being seen in, for example, QTek 1.5, but with the very latest radio stack and other bits n bobs. We HAVE noticed battery improvements over e100 1.5 The phone is that little bit more responsive as with every update, the SMS counter WORKS (woohoo!), so all in all, good stuff... This is really getting frustating! ... Why "secret" testing??? ... Are they afraid that we might ruin out phones? Since when did they start caring about that? ... Or is just fun with all that secrecy? :?
On the other hand I think its a very good to let the mods/admin here test, if anyone! They most be the most competent people on the entire internet! PS: They did'n say anything about the Danish update, did they? It must in beta stages too now. -------------------- |

Correct, newer than the e100.
It's either we get to play with it, and can give you a little info, or you just wait until it is signed off and it arrives. Which would you prefer? We don't have a huge amount of feedback into the process, but if there were any new huge glaring bugs, I think we'd find em P |

I think the "secrecy" thing is ridiculous, its not as if its a matter of national security or anything, its _Just_ a phone update. why not release a beta available saying orange will not be held responsible blah blah, care invalid

It's not as simple as that amo.
The release has to be signed off by various different people (as i'm sure you understand). Normally this process is behind the scenes, O have been kind enough to get us involved. If they did release a beta and it killed some phones, it (a) doesn't make them look good, and ( P |

Good to know something is on the way and that the Orange bods have recognised the battery problem... but not going to hold my breath waiting for it, like the SPV update that was due in July :?

Sorry David...Just my opinion and Im entitled to it. The fact that Orange can't tell us themselves their working on an update is ridiculous, I simply dont understand why there is such a need for secrecy. (And personally - im not too fussed about or in great need of an update)

QUOTE "]NO Simon! ;-)P Worth a try  Anyway, in my opinion, Orange will probably try and release the update just before the MoDaCo meet. That way the Orange representatives who are present, will avoid an ear bashing from MoDaCo members demanding SMS counters etc. etc Didn't they make the OTA unlocking Developer's site available just before the last meeting, which softened everyone up, and avoided any arrests at the meet :?: |

I'm glad that Orange have had the good sense to include Paul and the Mods in their beta testing contingent. That way we know that us forum members are going to be represented and our needs and wishes will be heard.

And they do listen and ask questions, The positive side of this is we have more chance of
hearing of any official Orange updates on this site before the rest of the net. Also there is a chance we could kill our phones and yes I'm glutton for punishment  but I would not wish a dead phone on anyone else. -------------------- TV Ambassador Blog visit my Live Space

Has the GPRS sticking issue is fixed, else you may as well throw the thing in the bin.
How about T9? Are the saved words remembered for more than a week? Does the inbox have a delete all function? Is there an alarm icon on the today screen? Oh, let me guess.....errr dunno, no, no, no. Whoopeee (this is not a dig at Paul, just a kick in the nuts for all those who have been responsible for the general smartphone update fiasco). How long have we been moaning about the SAME bloody issues? A week?, a couple of months?, no, nearly a year! It's not rocket science to make these things work, and if it is they are using the wrong scientists! -------------------- Phone History: 7110 > T68 > T68i > 7650 > SPV > E100 > 6600 > P900 > Treo 600 > E200 > C500 > Jam > SDA > C550 > QTEK8100 > iMate SP5 & JasJar > HTC MTeoR > Samsung i600 > HTC S620 > Dash

Glad to hear that you guys are in the testing loop. I see it as meaning that problems raised here will get a look-in.
Nice one, and look forward to hearing how you get on. -------------------- Pete
