I just picked up a new i780 in the Philippines for $500 and am loving it, although I have a couple of questions that maybe folks can help with:

1. Is there a user manual anywhere? It wasn't on the CD (which had a bunch of empty language folders where it should be) and it's not on the Samsung web site anywhere.
2. I'm coming from a Smartphone and I used profiles all the time, especially Automatic (switch to vibrate when Calendar shows in meeting) - is that functionality in WM 6.0 Professional? I would find it hard to believe that you can't do that and have to manually set your phone to vibrate all the time.
3. Just today I noticed that the finger-mouse button only responds to a second click. It's 100% consistent - almost like I have to double-click every time to do something and it doesn't matter if I make the second click soon after or a while after the first click. Any ideas as to what might cause that? Some weird setting? Hopefully not a hardware flaw... I have rebooted and it's still happening.
4. And finally, what's a surefire way for me to check whether GPS is working?

Thanks in advance!

Hi,

Windows mobile professional does support profiles, however the automatic profile changing, as far as i know can only be activated by using some third party software. I would recommend phone alarm, however i am not sure if it's compatible with the i780. I can try this later on when i get mine ;-)
I will also check if i get the manual in electronic format, if so i can put it in a public area and i will put here the link to it (if allowed, otherwise i will pm you).

Testing the GPS, well, you can try gps test and check it.

Regards,

Luís

Edit: The manual is available in the Samsung page

Thanks for posting the manual! I read most of it on the plane back to the US and found a few helpful tips!

Unfortunately, I still haven't found out if the "Automatic" profile is possible, and GPS Test just sits there scanning COM ports, so I'm not sure what to do with that. I'll check some of the other posts here on getting it working.

Hi,

I have my Samsung now, so i can more faithfully help you biggrin.gif
Regarding the automatic profiling, i recommend the plugin from HTC, called HTC Home, it's quite nice visually, and has some nice features, it's a very good today screen tool.
For the gps, i had to use GPS Gate to be able to use the GPS in Tom Tom, so i would recommend you install this tool, as it allows normal GPS programs to access the somehow hidden GPS Port from the Samsung (why it's done like this i have no idea, but it's for sure stupid....).

HTH,

Luís

Don't expect any answers from the users guide. This is my first phone with Windows Mobile Pro and I had a lot of questions about the use after 4 years on a smartphone ....and I did not find answers in the users guide :-D

About GPS.... it works fine on my mobile with Garmin and Google Maps without installing any third party software.

I have had to use GPS Gate as without it I cannot get Route 66 to work.

However, I am interested to know what your GPS settings are (i.e hardware/program port) and I'll try it on my device without starting GPS Gate.

Thanks Matt

I have not changed anything from the original setup.

The GPS-programport is set to GPD1
The GPS-hardwareport is set to COM9
And in "access" there is a mark in "automatic" (translated from a danish version...sorry if it is not correct)

Don't test this INSIDE. You have to be outside to test your GPS.....and be patient.

So I got my GPS working this morning, using GPD8 and COM9, with no additional software. I am successfully finding myself using both Windows Live Search and Google Maps (WLS is faster and the mapping is cleaner).

I think the most important advice is not to test inside. I went out into a nice open space and it all just worked suddenly.

Thanks for the replies.
