 Upgrade to wm 6.1 on i616 going to be available?

I gave it a shot and tried to install the wm6.1 update for the i617 on my i616. As expected, no such luck. I get the "s/w version is wrong" error. dry.gif

Any idea if this is going to be released for i616? Someone working on an unofficial update?

Any news would be welcome.

I too have the i616 and would really love a way to download this but even before I try, im going to unlock my phone I sent an email to fido with my IMEA earlier to try and see if they will give me the unlock code, once its unlocked Ill try and give this a shot

I was thinking today about what watttryan was saying about unlocking his i616 then applying the update. He may be on the right track.

a possible course of action could be:

1. unlock the phone
2. backup your original i616 software /rom
3. install 1617 rom
4. install 1617 wm 6.1 update

thats for the i617 not the i616 which is the canadian version of the bj2.

Tried it too. I have sim-unlocked i616 from Fido. Did not work - darn "S/W version" error. I suspect all we have to do is to trick the update into thinking that it's i617. Our version says i616UZGL4. Theirs is i617UCGK2. Could we change this value in the registry somewhere or something?

Hey guys I think we need to be more active here... There is probably not too many of us i616 users who want 6.1. I dont think that there is anyone who is going to solve this issue cause majority i617 got their stuff already. Even though i617 wm6.1 package is ourdated hehe smile.gif

Good news, someone over at Myblackjack2 forums has stated that fido emailed him back saying Fido/Rogers will be releasing the wm 6.1 update for the i616 before the end of the year and to check the rogers/fido website for the link to the samsung download page.

I cannot verify that this email is authentic but its the best news ive heard.
