From Digitimes...

QUOTE(Digitimes)
The increasing popularity of Asustek Computer's Eee PC has resulted in a significant impact on the development of UMPCs (ultra mobile PCs), which may force High Tech Computer (HTC) to adjust its deployment of UMPC products, according to Peter Chou, president and CEO of HTC.

The focus of HTC's development will continue to strengthen users' Internet experience through mobile devices, Chou said without further elaborating on the company's UMPC strategy.

However, market sources in Taiwan indicated that HTC is developing new MID (Mobile Internet Device) products, using Intel's Atom and Qualcomm's Snapdragon chipset platforms. New devices are likely to be unveiled in the second half of 2008.

HTC plans to launch 10 new handsets in the second half of 2008, including new models for its HTC Diamond and Touch Pro lineups, Chou said.

In addition, HTC's new plant in Shanghai is scheduled to begin volume production in October this year, Chou noted.

There's no stopping HTC is there!

Our predictions for the rest of 2008 / first half 2009...
  • - Atom based MID / UMPC launched to challenge in 'Eee' market
  • - Snapdragon based MID launched running on Windows Mobile
  • - Diamond range expanded (with Nike followup) and similar 'family based' product alignment to take place in lower cost segment and larger device segment (e.g. Omni)
Of course, they have Android coming down the line too, so it sure is going to be busy times for the hugely successful and expanding company. Should be a fun ride smile.gif

Should keep you guys busy but 10 new mobiles are going to be very confusing. How can you be sure you have made the right choice? It all started with Dayville's 40 flavours of ice cream in the 1970s when some of us just wanted vanilla or chocolate!

Perhaps Apple's one iPhone fits all strategy might help avoid bamboozling their customers and maintain market share.

Can't wait for all the reviews and specs, though!
