I thought I'd post the one tip I've found so far.

If you click on the blue dot key on the keyboard twice it locks the keyboard to the blue items. This is useful if you want to enter a series of numbers using the keyboard.

Hold the connection manager button down to switch between vibrate and sound on mode.

Hit the sym (dot + space) button to switch between symbols - eg / to \ and $ to £.

Just been trying this, as wanted the pound sign earlier and had to go through the pop-up stylus keyboard (incidentally does anyone know how to stop this popping up all the time when you're going through entry fields (for eg, on the web)?)

Not sure if the following is what you mean, but if you double tap the dot, then press a symbol, you can then cycle through the alternatives to that symbol with the Sym (space) button. Double tap the dot button to return to normal text.

Sorry if that's what you meant...

Well it's better than that annoying full keyboard popping up, even when you've got the keyboard slid out! Nice one.

Might be worth noting, if anyone has WiFi problems, that the WiFi driver is disabled when you're connected to ActiveSync via the USB. Found that out from the WiFiFoFum forum. Confused me for a while, as I could still browse the web, until I realised I was just connecting, networked, through my PC's web connection. Duh!

This isn't a tip about the phone as such, rather about one of the supplied accessories.

I just discovered that the stereo headset supplied with the Vario can be adjusted to fit around your neck by splitting apart the small rectangular block nearest to the headphones. Once this is split you can adjust the length of the cord, loop it around your neck and clip it back together to hold the microphone at throat level.

Start up commonly used apps when you first start up the wizard. They don't tend to take up that much memory and load so much faster (contacts, inbox etc).

You can press the shift key twice to toggle caps-lock too.

probably obvious but i didnt figure it out at first but the ok button next to the space bar corrosponds to the ok button in the top right of the screen to close windows etc

its also good that if you double press a shift key for typing numbers etc you can press it once to enter one letter and go back to numbers, useful for postcodes/software keys

This is a tip you might want to avoid. If you are connected via USB to activesync and your screnn is blank (powersave mode) and you press the power button to bring it out of powersave (as I'm used to doing) it disconnects activesync (odd I know, but I have found it annoying, specially due to the issues AS and the phone have together).

Mine's a Qtek by the way.

Just trying the registry edits on my Vario now. For reference here are the original settings and the changes that the site recommends making:

QUOTE(Original)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0 (00000000)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache= 1 (0x0000001)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize= 0 (00000000)

QUOTE(SmartMobileAssets values)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\CacheSize=0x1000(4096)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\FATFS\EnableCache=0x1(1)
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\Filters\fsreplxfilt\ReplStoreCacheSize=0x1000(4096)

Edit: I've also tried the ActiveSync tweak mentioned in the post as well.

The screen seems to rotate faster since I've put in the tweaks.

Cool. I've posted this on another topic, but can anyone recommend a good (but free!) registry editor that works well on WM5?

Cheers.

PHM registry editor is good and free. Do a search on google or here, and you'll find it.

Thanks!

I've tried the registry edits, but can't see much of a difference to be honest!

I've removed the edits now. My Vario has locked up a couple of times since making the edits so I'm going back to basics to home in on the casue (a rogue program I think).
