How to solder LCD ribbon?

I have a new digitiser to fit. It is a Sony one whereas my LCD is Toppoly, so I need to slice the ribbon along the tracks to fit the wider pattern as I've read about elsewhere. Can anyone give info about how to do the soldering? I am guessing it must be special solder with a lower melting point than usual. What is the correct way of applying heat without destroying the ribbon? :)

Use a good no-clean flux, a hot airgun / reflower with micro point if you have one or a very good soldering iron if you don't, and take your time.

Fold the ends of the new ribbon over to make soldering a contact surface easier than heating through the ribbon ( remember to insulate afterwards ) and hopefully if you have removed the old ribbon carefully you should not need to tin the contact points - just flux and a heat source should do.

Many thanks for your very informative reply.

I'll now be able to tackle the job, once I've got hold of everything I need to do this.
