Have you checked the sim contact pins are not broken?

Have you tried the sim in another phone?

Have you tried another sim in the phone even if non-orange? ( unlocking it is easy )

Has it been wet?

Have you checked at http://service.htceurope.com/ if it is still under warranty?

I can confirm that the Pins do not appear broken;

I can confirm that the sim card works in my m1000;

I have tried a vodafone sim card in it; it does not recognise that .. I will get my girlfriends orange payg sim card and give that a try ..

I tried the website; the phone is under warranty, but could not supply a reason/symptom as nothing was displayed .. (see the attached file) post-2237-1158935595_thumb.jpg

Any ideas?

Ring them up. Ask for Tim. Under no circumstance mention the unlocking - hard reset it - it's non permanent anyway. You don't need proof of purchase it's done on the seriel.

I have called several times ..

no joy in a phone call back though ..

Looks like I may have to contact Orange themselves to see if they can help ..

Although, on past experience, I'm not holding my breath.

Orange will pass the buck to HTC if your device is older than 6 months.

Could be that Tim's on holiday etc? I'll try emailing him directly to ask.

If there is the possibility that your device may go out of the 12 months anytime soon I'd keep trying, and printout the page showing it as under warranty. You don't want to have to point to this thread as your proof the fault happened while it was under warranty ;-)

I wouldn't worry too much about not receiving an instant call-back... Tim will be a busy man...

Be patient, and he will call back.

Try and give Orange a call, although my guess is that they will refer you to HTC Europe, who will in turn refer you to TimM...

Good luck! It can be a viscous cirlce.

I have been in touch with Orange ..

Heres the story ..

In February I 'upgraded' to a motorola v3x: I tried and tried and could not get on with the phone .. so i bought an m500 off of ebay.

I was paying Orange Care .. when I called about it, I was informed that I could not switch over to cover the m500 I was using, so I told them to cancel it.

Now I am having problems, I have been informed that indeed it sounds like a hardware (phone) fault and its probably cost me around

I'm not holding my breath for contact from the guys at HTC (is that Tim?) as its been all weekend and half of Monday and I got no contact with them.

How DARE they not work over the weekend or call you back at 9.01am monday morning?!?!

My options:

1) try to fix the phone .. if anyone has any ideas, please PM me

2) use my m1000 till the contract runs out, then off to t-mobile

3) buy a new phone off of ebay

4) go without a phone (! yeah, rightio!!)

Any ideas anyone?

1) Doesn't sound like anyone but HTC can help you.

2) An idea, or maybe use the m1000 until HTC get back in touch?

3) Has your current predicament taught you nowt? Check www.expansys.com for prices of devices with warranty. eBay should be treated as a flea market. You'll get something cheap but you (hopefully) only get what you pay for, in most cases no warranty.

4) Silence can be golden.

edit - you might want to pull the JPEG with your IMEI from your post. Databases like checkmend etc allow entry of an IMEI without actual proof of ownership!!! If I was so inclined I could register your m500 then report it stolen and have it barred in the UK. Without a receipt or network paperwork it would be difficult for you to prove ownership.

Laffs! Thanks for the lightheartedness .. brightens my day ...

Yeah, I'll have to wait and I guess it teaches me something .. don't try unlocking the sim card or make any modifications .. if it ain't broke, why fix it?!

I'll wait around for the HTC guys, meanwhile, I'll have to use my m1000.

*** 25th October 2006 ***

Mine phone is back .. Although I've not tried it yet due to a case of the plague (well, the sniffs, runny noses and headaches actually) and everyone being in quarantine!! :(

More detail when I've got the phone and tested it ..
