"Web N Walk, Streaming and IM"

Has anyone as yet had any contact from Tmobile for Data Streaming, using IM or Phone as a modem, when it is prohibited on the basic Web N Walk tariff, and if so what have they said?

Used IM infrequently, see no real need to be signed on all the time (it's inconvenient for me!, if I want to allow people to contact me realtime I'll give them my phone number) but it does have its occasional use.

Used my phone as a wmodem, but only as a last resort when I was absolutely stuck and NEEDED net access - ended up using my laptop on the steps of Chamberlain Square in brum, sitting across from the Birmingham Big Screen. Very bizarre, but quite cool. As it all just goes through the phone's data connection, I think the only way they'd clue is if they started monitoring the type of content passing over your connection - the protocols used, etc... A lot of RTSP multimedia streaming (which is nigh-on impossible to use natively on the phone due to its pitiful RTSP support), a lot of access to high-bandwidth sites, a lot of broadband media streaming, I guess that'd raise flags on the system. I really don't think they care too much with occasional use, so long as you don't whore their bandwidth - they only have a finite amount to share amongst users, even in built-up areas (PARTICULARLY built-up areas), so my take on it is as long as you don't push your luck by using your phone as a broadband replacement, you're fine.

Course, if you want to pay the ?17.50/mo or however much it is now, and get the whole shebang with all the extra usages officially sanctioned, that's fine by me. :)

Likewise I only use IM occasionally. Listen to the radio over the net every couple of weeks or so for no more than 20 mins, and do hardly any streamng of videos.

Just don't want to get caught out.

I have my direct push set up running all the time and get quite a lot of emails with large attachments, as well as using MSN a fair bit when stuck on the train home etc, also used it as a modem when our internet went out for a week - amazing how much faster it is going through the computer rather than straight on the phone, almost as if the pocket internet explorer limits the speed.....anyway they aint contacted me yet, and to be honest i doubt they would unless you were breaking your usage limit of 1GB, which through the phone is unlikely. I think the only reason they have put the no using as a modem clause in is to try and discourage people using it as a replacement for their home dial up.
