When playing Contra or any other NES game the volume is WAY too loud. Does anyone know how to control the volume?

"When out of the emulator, hold the scroll wheel down and set the earpiece volume to about 20%. Open a game and enjoy at a pleasant volume!"

Nope, no change, still as loud as possible.
