Sick of hearing about it yet? ;)

Orange Launches First Windows Mobile 6.0 Device for Business Users

LONDON, April 11

- SPV E650 Combines Latest Microsoft Platform With Dedicated Messaging Features

Orange Business Services today launches the first Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0-powered smartphone on the UK market. Available exclusively from Orange until the beginning of May, the compact SPV E650 combines powerful functionality with sleek design and the ability to connect with Wi-Fi, EDGE and GPRS networks, making mobile messaging easier than ever before.

Designed for business users, the SPV E650 offers all the advantages of a PDA, alongside quad-band functionality for ultimate connectivity. Users can update spreadsheets or documents on the move, using the mobile versions of Microsoft Excel and Word. Windows Mobile 6.0 means that documents appear on the device screen just as they would on a PC, avoiding formatting headaches.

The Orange SPV E650 also conceals a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, making it easier than ever before to respond to emails on the move. A generous screen, which switches automatically between portrait and landscape modes, provides optimum conditions for viewing and amending documents.

"We're naturally excited to be the first operator to launch a Windows Mobile 6.0 smartphone onto the UK market," comments Nick Horton, Head of Business Devices, Orange Business Services UK. "By offering this powerful new operating system in a device that combines a compact, attractive design with full QWERTY functionality, we believe the SPV E650 represents the best option yet for today's mobile professional," he added.

Windows Mobile 6.0 offers full compatibility with Microsoft Exchange Server, ensuring seamless synchronisation between users' email accounts and mobile devices. Even hyperlinks are supported, enabling web pages to be accessed directly from emails whilst on the move.

Security features are another important feature of the SPV E650, allowing data to be erased remotely in the event of device loss or theft, via Microsoft Exchange Server.

The SPV E650 is now available to UK business customers for GBP165 (excluding VAT), or from free depending on contract. The device is also available to consumer customers from free to GBP161, depending on package.

I went into Orange Manchester last week and the person at the store didn't know what I was going on about!

I went to Piccadilly station and they were more helpful and said they thought it would be in by the Tuesday just gone, so as you can imagine, I walk in on Tuesday lunch time only to be told it would be towards the end of the month ;)

Paul, you have a S710 you lucky swine!!! Us unfortunate folk need to wait for what looks a real contender for being the best windows mobile smartphone! We are waiting Orange!!!!!

"Available exclusively from Orange until the beginning of May"

What does that mean? That HTC will release the phone as the S710 in May or that other operators will start carrying it in May?

Hmmm, intriguing.

Surely HTC won't delay theirs for that reason? Maybe that other operators will carry it?

A little bird tells me it's coming to Vodafone...

excellent, my vodafone upgrade is available NOW, orange upgrade not ready for another 3 months...

went into Orange Ipswich store and after 3 different blank faces someone finally found me a dummy display model. this thing is a _very_ nice size...

HTC still on for an April release as far as I know. I think maybe Orange mean no other uk network will introduce it until May??

FYI, we have the chance to have it in our Orange store since yesterday in France !!

I bought mine this morning and I confirm: this is THE BOMB ;)

Everything is well adapted on this phone, even the "orange remove security" works, which allowed me to install windowslive mobile ... it really works for a beta release. Even when you change the orientation of the screen, everything works and quite quickly.

The first softs I installed without problems are the following: windowslive mobile, Agenda one and Commontime Mnotes (WM5 version which works perfectly :D )

Next step for me: check if TOMTOM mobile, designed for WM5, still works on WM6: this would be the must :(

For those who were wondering it Microsodt was about to remove Office Mobile suite on certain phones, I confirm this is not the case at Orange. It is here.

Wifi works perfectly, and there are many details which have been really improved in WM6.

Picture quality is really the best I ever seen on all SPV.

Let me know if you want some more detailed info.

I tried to install TOMTOM 5.2 ... i was very surprised when I noticed that it works, even better than on my SPV C600, it is now much much faster.

Really guys, this phone rocks !

Glad you've tried TomTom and got it to work. You can pretty much guarantee as soon as it's available all the posts will be "Does TomTom work?" ;) :D

Did you test TomTom WM5 on it? I have a Qtek 8310 with TT WM5 and I'm considering changing to the HTC S710, but it is important that my GPS stuff will work completely as in my 8310. Can you confirm?
