Following a change to the terms of your contract by O2 - so that you must now pay for "non-geographic" numbers (eg 0845), they are allowing anyone to get out of your contract.

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/09/05/o2...non_geographic/

This only applies to customers signing up before March 2007.

You have 1 month from them sending you the text (or until the end of September)

You can then:

a: sell your old phone on eBay

b: joint t-mobile on Web'n'Walk and get a Vario III

c: port your number

d: all of the above

It may only apply to those customers who have used those numbers on their mobile before. If you never called 0845 numbers etc, then your request may be refused.

What you may find though is that they'll reduce your monthly payments, or give a one off credit for 'future' calls.

But beware of doing this on any cashback or any free gift contracts. I know that many of them have terms which state things like "Failure to keep the account open for the minimum term will result in us reclaiming the lost commission" (which then is stated to be a few hundred pounds.

Worth checking before ending.
