Upgrade paths from the Vario II

So, I've come to the end of my contract with T-Mobile and I'm looking around for the next phone / contract to move to.

So, any recommendations on what phone is a good upgrade from the Vario II? Obviously the Vario III is avaiable on T-Mobile (although they havn't offered me this upgrade option for free!)

But is there a better phone that has all the features of the Vario II plus extra or upgrade features?(I thinking GPS and a better camera or my main wants).

Also, what contract options are around for the Vario III(or whatever it is called by the choosen company) or alterative phones..

Thanks in advance for any advice, I don't really know where to look to be honest.

Personally I am hanging on for the next round of releases which look like they will feature VGA screens and better touch screen operation. Sony Xperia X1 looks interesting as does the Samsung i900. Nothing adds much to my 18 month old Vario II, IMHO.

thanks for the reply . I see what your saying . but I think I want to change now.

what's about the iphone? In a lot of ways it seems like a downgrade from the Vario ii. But everyone who has one seems to think they are great.

My main use of my phone at the moment is general webbrowsing and a bit of email. The vario does this pretty well I think, would the iphone do worse?

I don't get 3G in most areas I have my phone, so don't think id miss that really.

Personally I'd not have anything to do with O2, however if you email, then you might not like the iPhone. I bought an iPod Touch, and I find the keyboard really irritating compared to the Vario II. However the iPod Touch is *excellent* for watching small videos and listening to music - which is why I got one.

I'd recommend the HP iPaq 614c. No QWERTY keyboard but it does have a hardware keypad, fast processor, lots of memory, 3MP camera (which is quite good in daylight), built in GPS, Wifi, HSDPA - pretty much everything. Oh and it's fast! :( And reliable.

As for going with O2...I'd say avoid! :D You can't beat T-Mob in my opinion.

thanks for the replies. ill check out the suggestions when im home.

What's so bad about O2? I've never used them but also havnt heard anything bad about them.

I've now cancelled my tmobile contract, so need to find a new contract and phone this month.

So, any more suggestions ? How about the N95? Comes with an 8gb memory card for free on tmobile .

Well this is just one of the many Modaco threads on O2 - and one of the reasons why you may want to steer clear! :D

Although the N95 is a good phone in it's own way, you may find it too much of a drastic change. You'd be losing touchscreen support and also Windows Mobile for the menu driven Series 60. I must admit that I was once a Nokia S60 user but (in my opinion anyway) it doesn't compare to WM despite it's problems. Try checking out the devices on Expansys as there is a wide choice of Windows Mobile Standard and Professional devices that you can choose from and bundle it with a T-Mobile package.

Thanks for the link. To be honest, I don't read around these forums much, so hadn't seen anything on O2.

I'll have alook at the WM phones available, thanks for the advice on the N95.
