Only 3 HTC Windows Mobile Devices planned for 2010?

Over at xda-developers, HTC's planned portfolio of devices for 2010 has leaked out. The surprising news is that with Windows Mobile 7 just around the corner, only 3 devices are planned on the platform.

Currently named Tera, Trophy and Photon. This is not great news for Windows Mobile on one hand, however on the other hand it may give them the opportunity to really get it right with these products.

Will the Android based devices overshadow the Windows Mobile devices?

Its for the first quarter of 2010...

I don't think that portfolio is for the whole year, but rather the 1st half. Also it seems these phone's aimed towards T-mobile because of the branding on each picture . They look like budget based Winmo 6.5 phones, aimed towards the newer smartphone users that just need a decent device, everyone doesn't like paying the outrageous prices similar to the HD2, however great the device is.. It's think it's part of HTC's plan to grab more consumers. The 'Trophy' is clearly the stand out of the bunch. I'd take it over my Omnia i900 any day. I still think HTC is manufacturing a HTC touch pro2 successor or HD2 Pro.

It would be poor if it was just these phones as win mo 7 is out in 2010 and these phones are classed as 6.5 and from what I see they arent that much different from Diamond 2/Touch Pro 2 spec wize. I think win mo 7 phones will have a spec nearer to HD2.

Less phones released =

- less hurried devices

- bug free release rom's

- quality updates to existing devices

Slow down HTC... more isnt necessarily better :D

Three a quarter (or even half year) from one manufacturer seems quite good to me...

Only 3 W/M phones from HTC.... :D

Maybe HTC is going to give MS the luke-warm shoulder and start going more Android??

IF the rumor mill is correct HTC newest and greatest phone release will be the HTC Bravo.

Now this phone will be worth waiting for :( ;)

:D :D

Seems to make sense to me, why bring out lots of phones prior to Windows 7 release? If I was them, I would be focussing my Windows development on native Windows 7 phones now. Hence the higher number of Android phones.

Totally agree. I think phone makers should move to a lifecycle more commonly associated with games consoles for example.

I really can't see HTC having any devices "leaked" that are likely to include a clue to Winmo7.

anyway there's no mention of the coming Tegra based device, that's rumoured to arrive mid april.

I have a feeling that Win7 wont be as good as we all think/hope.......

If they screw this up theyre goooooone! The noose is getting tighter!

I think Micro$oft are well aware of what's going on - so am very hopeful about WinMo7 being something that will put them "back in the game" as it were! :D

These new HTC phones are actually quite underwhelming - no doubt the second half of the year is when they will release their most kickass phones! ;)

However I still think HTC are not innovating enough - and will be pwned by Samsung at the top end of the market! :(

Windows Mobile isn't going anywhere and from a marketing stand point Android is the NEW hype so it is wise to release a bunch of phones with this new software to keep sales rolling.

WinMo needed a major do-over and I think (HOPE) that WInMo7 will change the way people look at a WinMo devices.

I for one recall the HTC Exec claiming they wanted to spend more time making devices on Android. If I also recall, it was them that made the statement that they were not getting on with MS very well (ie: delays of the OS, development issues, ect).

Personally, I am at the point that WM devices are getting worse and worse. Too many devices out there, Far too many in my view.

Keeping things simple (like the iPhone) is probably a good thing. Keep the hardware as simple as possible. Time to break your stylus and start using your fingers I guess.

Not got high hopes of WM7, and word on the inside is ........ "It will be rushed"!

Personally, not a fan anymore, and since Gates has left, its clear that WM development has gone downhill. Ballmer is a co*k plain and simple. And not very well respected to certain developers inside their own house.

Abandon ship the developers may be thinking? Maybe Manufacturers could be looking at other OS alternatives perhaps?

Lets see what happens. A killer piece of hardware with a cool OS that "works" and no lags..... would be nice.

But I for one would rather retain a phone for 3years or so, before even thinking of having to always "have" to upgrade to the newer model.

I do not change my Microwave, Car, TV, Carpets, House that often. Buy what you can afford, and hope it does what you want. And be happy with it.

Failing that..... abandon the MS ship and go elsewhere. And I think that is where I am heading soon.
