Help - phonenumbers got 'hyp-hen-ated'

Hi, somewhere somehow while rooting, backing up and restoring my phonenumbers got 'hyphenated'...since i am from germany i am used to:

"areacode-number" i.e. "04123-123456"

NOW numbers have become like this "041-2312-456" which is a pain to read

is there a way to revert this or (better) a good pc-softwaresolution for editing these entries...maybe even batch-wise?

i got the same result when i exported my contacts and then reimport them. the export method add these hyphens for me. i dunno if you backup your contacts this way though

you can export them and then find and replace them all into a notepad editor like i diid

yes, that explains it, i guess. so... were you able to fix this?

Did you - by chance - switch your locale to English (US)? That locale typically comes with a hyphenated number formatting.

where can i check this?

from fresh flash on i selected "germany" during installation-procedure. so i guess the answer is "no" .. unless there is somewhere another hidden 'locale-switch' ?!?

I really think it *might* be a bug within the internal "export contact to sd-card"-feature...maybe this feature ist "us-only" ?? i dunno....just wild guessing here...

Mine did the same when I backed them all up on Google contacts, makes no difference to the phone or its operation so I'm not overly bothered about it

This usually is a locale problem indeed. Either change your locale via settings or do it by using MoreLocale 2 which is downloadable from the Market.

Just use a text editor and find and replace all the happens with no character. Easy enough. One replace all does the magic

acutally this was my first thought....but linux and all is quite new to me and i was not able to retrieve some editable "phonebook.TXT" from the desire. i was i had such a file - i could fix the hyphenation in a second....

@franklinvv: I installed moreLocale... phone was set to germany...like always.. so this does not seem to be the source of the problem..

update:

@lambrospower: I think I understand what you were trying to explain...I will open the *exported .vcf-file* from the SD-Card in an editor an do the trick...hope it works....thanks for the inspiration :P

The problem ist still the same: My phonenumbers still get "hyphenated" when exported !! :angry:

It must be something to do with the export function, cause i'm on an Australian locale and it hyphenates my numbers when i export to the SD.

Another thing that bugs me with the export, is that i have contacts in different groups (eg Family, Friends, Colleges, etc), and after exporting, flashing a rom, and re-importing, it merges them all into one group :angry:

The export to SD card option is basically pants!

The way round it is to export to SD, then logon to https://www.google.com/accounts and select contacts. Import the file from your SD card. Edit out all the hyphens and assign them to the groups you want. Once this is done, on the phone untick Phone and SIM contacts and tick google contacts. It will then synchronise all the contacts down without hyphens and in the correct groups and you have them backed up on your google account.

This way you can wipe your phone completely clean and your contacts will remain the same. Much better than keeping them stored on the phone.
