ok, i have further tested the samsung headset with the SF, seems like the microfone from the headset it's not sensible enough for the SF, if i hold it 20cm apart from the mouth, when i speak normal, the sound quality is very low (i don;t know if u understod me)

so, 20cm away from the headset micro, the conversation quality isn't very good.

how is that with the nokia headset? is it any better ?

I haven't asked about call quality, but I didn't get any complaint, so ... you should probably worry more about background noise.

If you need to, you can clip thing onto your collar, so its fairly close.

The SF isn't as loud as my old "click wheel" iPod into a standard load, my old Bose active speakers (without a volume control).

This gizmo is not going to make your ear canal earbuds louder - but it'll save you ripping them out of your ears to talk on the phone.

Its not like the incompatible iPhone headsets, It just does what it does, properly. That's all.

I don't want LOUD. Its loud enough for me.

I'm looking forward to other people being able to answer the questions!

i only asked to know if i will buy a nokia headset or not. (because i bought my phone on ebay, and it came widouth headset)

ok, i called my sis (she's in USA), and talked with my headset from Samsung, and the call quality was really good, even it was an international call, she could hear me pretty good ! she didn't complayn, so i think i will stick with the samsung headset.

as for the volume..it's loud enough for me ! i don;t know how the original headset sounds, but i bet it's not this good (quality like) that;s because of the insulating earphones.

so i will recomend them

just to save oh!Dougal from having to answer any more questions mine arrived today. It works exacly as suggested.

Annoyingly the adapter I recieved has a broken clip so I've asked for another to be sent. The clip does look pretty flimsey - but for £2.50 delivered, c'mon!

As it was so cheap I thought I'd see if I could get hold of the samsung headset but the only ones I can find are from America and look slightly different.

I can confirm one other thing, using my sennheiser in ear headphones, there is a definite hiss, exactly the same as without the adapter. I'm not going to let is bother me though... I won't let it... I won't even think about letting that happen.... honest.

I had this problem with my Pulse. When I used a different headset the microphone volume was very low and people could not hear me properly on phone calls. Hope this one doesn't suffer from that problem!

I have found that the hands free headphones from my Nokia 5530 also work with the SF. The mic and earphones work great. Also the little control button on the mic clip will also start and stop the default SF music player.

That's interesting, seeing as the adapter that I bought had a broken clip and I'm yet to hear back from the ebay seller I'm tempted. Few questions

Are these the headphones: http://www.nokia.co.uk/find-products/acces...-headset-wh-205

Can you definitely answer/end calls?

Can you hear a hiss?

When the phone rings does it ring in the headphone?

I guess that if all the above are fine the only downside is that you can't plug any of your own headphones in so you are stuck with these. There again, if there is not hiss, that's not such a bad thing!

what do you mean by "hiss" .. it's like.. you hear a little noise when you put your music player on pause ? like "SSSSSSSSSSSSSS" how should i describe it ...

sorry that i dont understand, english it's not my native language.

but if this is what you are hearing, I am hearing this sort of "distortion" or "noise" too, with my samsung headset.

and, i can answer/end calls, i can launch music player, or put it on pause (by long pressing the button) and i can hear the ring in the headphones too (at a low volume, but you hear it !)

I think different people are getting different levels of hiss - http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...one-jack-issue/

For me, if I switch on the radio, I can hear a hiss even when the volume is fully down. Changing the volume doesn't affect the hiss so I don't think its static from the radio. Its also there on the MP3 player but perhaps not as loud. I'm using some fairly expensive in ear sennheiser headphones.

Its not such a problem for me but if I'm buying a new headset it would be nice to sort it. Your Samsung headphones do seem to do everything I want but I can't seem to find them anywhere except one USA ebay seller.

These look a little different to yours. They might work but I don't really want to chance it.

There are these on ebay for much cheaper but again they look different to yours

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Handsfree-Headset-Sa...=item4cf2dec95d

I think I'll probably end up re-ordering the adapter I bought off ebay. Its only £2.50. Although I have seen the other Nokia ones that Donkey Oaty mentions for about £7 so I might stretch to those if there is no hiss.

The headphones I refer to are the ones you have linked to above. I'll have to check on some of your questions. My headphones are in the car at the moment so I'll reply to this later.

Cheers

I'd expect that ANY Nokia 5800/5530 compatible *wired* headsets would work pretty similarly.

Isn't the ad -57 an 2.5mm plug?

How can it be plugged into the SF?

Or i need to go for an adapter too (2.5>3.5mm)?

Thanks.

I can confirm that the AD-57 fits the SF must be the standard 3.5mm size. You don't need an adapter for this

Hello, just tested AD-54 (originally delivered with Nokia 5800). Except sounds :P DON'T work anything else :D. Neither answering incoming call with biggest "phone" button, volume control or skipping/playing/pausing tracks. Phone rings from speaker, not from headphones. I tried different music players, still nothing.

I have purchased via eBay (for well under five pounds inc UK delivery) a NOKIA AD-57 headset (following a tipoff on the Pulse forum here).

It does seem to work with the Orange San Francisco.

There's a 4-segment plug that fits the SF socket nicely.

It has a cable to a small (2 big sugarcubes?) box. (The cables are flexy, not stiff.)

That box has

- a clip to attach it to clothing

- a microphone

- a socket for a standard 3.5 mm 3-segment headphone plug

- a push switch (nice and easily located by touch, button is the whole top surface, you'd press it towards your body - no ergonomic criticism there!)

A set of Nokia earbuds was included, but the point of the thing is to allow you to use your favourite (no microphone) hifi earphones.

Like I said, it seems to work.

Pressing the button does not change the audio quality (as with iPhone headsets) - BUT a "long press" on the button brings up the music player (from Home screen for example). This is the (stock rom) behaviour some people have accidentally provoked by fiddling with a plug that does not fit the SF nicely!

When the phone is (really, truly) asleep, pressing the button does NOT wake it.

On a strong FM station, with the cable(s) loose fully uncoiled, audio was fine (even with my old Bose active speakers as the 'earphones').

When the phone rings (it rings at the phone, not in your ear) pressing the button answers the call. Another press hangs up. The microphone works during the call.

If you are looking for a way to use decent earphones, or you've wrecked the headset that came with the phone, this is well worth the few quid it cost me.

If anyone was looking even for a pre-wired 4-segment plug that fits the SF nicely (so they could attempt to build an N1-style controller - I have no idea how the SF would take to it), then even for the plug it might be worthwhile.

Thanks for the tip! My headphones were caught on the escalator handle today and was ripped into 2 pieces. I will check this out!

I'm having a pair of klipsch s2m, I really like them but they dont seem to work with my Blade. The problem is that the sound doesnt work properly (its strange and you cant hear any voices in the song), BUT if i hold down my answer button it works. Is this a hardware issue? Does anyone have the same problem?

Confirm that one, just tried the control/headphones that came with Nokia 5800 and nothing works except for the sound
