If you're talking about the stock 1.04 then no, it doesn't take that long, about 5-10 mins at a guess. IIRC, the DOS box/Terminal that pops up on the desktop will keep you informed of the progress, and the Vega should display something about "flashing NVRAM" (this may be worded wrong - going from memory here sorry!!)
