Guys sorry to bother you but the password samfirmware.com appears to be invalid for files Phone_I8000XXJJ1.rar and PDA_I8000NXXJJ1_HW_40.rar but it´s seems to be working for the rest. Just downloaded those 2 files 4 times to be sure it´s not an error with them, but I´m getting same results...... :(

I have an i8000L device and I´m from Uruguay (ANTEL is my carrier) and I wanted to know if I can use this files to update my phone without any problem?

Thanks in advance for all the help you can provide.

Is this the latest ROM for Omnia II?

I mean is this 6.5.3?

...and is this installable to any Omnia II? I'm in Hungary, not in US.

jj1 ROM is 6.5 not 6.5.3 Latest 6.5.3 ROM, is JI1 . about language has nothing to do with PDA and phone version. just use JI1 ROM, JJ1 phone and also flash the latest csc for your country JI1 (select I8000PANJI1.csc from octans menu for your country) and everything will be in hungarian (mayar)!!!

see here http://www.modaco.com/topic/297627-guide-to-flashing-rom-on-i8000/

argentinos, which ROM would you recommend for an Omnia 2 first-time upgrade? Which one is more stable & smooth: I8000NXJJ1 or I8000NXJI1? thanks

it is just a matter what you prefer of what fits you. because windows mobile 6.5.3 was the latest os some aplications (very few, i only met 1) may not fit your screen because app developers were not adapted to the new os changes. on windows 6.5 (same gui base compared to 6.1) all apps fit screen.

you must consider that microsoft's windows mobile 6.5 os evolution was 6.5.3. so newer means fewer bugs left.

on the other hand samsung with it's latest JJ1 tried to eliminate bugs from it's previous 6.5 versions and did achieved it (especially on gps)

both os are very nice. 6.5 was developed for pen use, while 6.5.3 was developed to be more finger friendly.

samsung developed JJ1 (6.5) because professionals need a more stable, fast, compatible os for their apps. mocsosoft gave 6.5.3 to users to make their machine easier to navigate and make os more friendly to mases (to beat symbian and early android of this time etc). so it seems 6.5 was developed for professionals, 6.5.3 was developed for simple users. this is an eplanation why all professional machines (like super market) that still run 6.5 and not 6.5.3. wm 6.5 is considered more tested, more compatible and more fast.

i personally prefer 6.5.3 because it is more finger friendly. and i met no differences on games or gps etc.

see 6.5.3 and also see 6.5 and compare yourself. if you are asking me flash on your system the following

Eboot_I8000NXXJI1_HW_40.eb0

PDA_I8000SERJI1_HW_40.MST

CSC_I8000NXXJI1.CSC

Phone_I8000XXJJ1 (you must download jj1 for this, extract and add to your octans)

Thanks, very helpful, argentinos. I'll try to update to the ones you recommend. Does the CSC include Spanish? In case not, is there any CSC for that ROM version, incluidng Spanish?

BTW, Is there any method to do a FULL ROM backup (boot, CSC, PDA, phone,...)? So that i may fully restore my current ROM

Yes, you can have spanish as language. If the CSC file says "NXX" it means its a multilanguage file

For backup, i dont know about the FULL ROM backup, but back in the days, when i used the omnia, i used SPB backup. Worked very good. (as long as you flashed the same rom as the backup e.g. my JJ1v.T 6.5 English ROM and then restored the backup, you would get all your programs and all your files)

Thanks to both of you (Speedfrog & Argentinos): Everything went fine with Argentino's suggestion, i'll try your UL ROM & perhaps some other non-lite (suggestions are welcome). Otherwise and besides that, a link to a good collection of "most useful CAB's for WM6.x" would be grrreat.

(As for the CSC, everything clear)

for lite ROMS of i8000 see here http://www.symbianize.com/showthread.php?t=199385

I checked this one, i don't know "whatever the language" the registration requires in order to fill some form fields (verification question). Otherwise, i cannot see the links.

I want to have SPB Mobile Shell installed, be it as a CAB or "cooked" into the ROM, as i'd like to use some custom "Today plugins". Besides that, i use some programs that were developed for older WM versions (TomeRaider 4ex), and they have some trouble with WM6.5.3 ROM: some of their windows or dialogs do not show the closing button ('OK' button), and i cannot close them. From your suggestion, i'd prefer an UL based on JI1 (WM 6.5.3). Do you think there could be any good alternative to SpeedFrog's UL ROM and some utility to fix the closing of dialog windows (by means of WM_CLOSE, not killing them) so that i can fulfill my needs?

for original ROMS of i8000 see here or here

I got my NXXJI1 & NXXJJ1 from here. Thanks.

i do not know your needs. you haven't explained enough. you need speed, compatibility, functions ? what ? you play games, you use for office apps ?

your native language is english or chinese or italian (because i haven't met a cooked ROM in other languages). if your lang is rare use official ROMS.

about spb you can find the latest trial version on the official webpage http://spb.com/pocketpc-software/mobileshell/download.html

or just type "spb mobile shell windows mobile" on google or other search engine for older versions

oh about symbianize the lang is philippino but using google/bing translate you will be able to register and download what you need

i do not know your needs. you haven't explained enough. you need speed, compatibility, functions? what ?

All of that, and mainly on these touch-unfriendly devices, ease of use, and "customizability". Without discarding stability, which should be a must, and is...

you play games, you use for office apps ?

I mostly use it to access info on databases, be it dictionaries, encyclopedias... (I referred Tomeraider, which is a a "Database Interface", so to say). Also as a bookreader. From time to time, to listen to music, occasionally to play a video... oh! you can imagine: also as a phone. I do not play with the mobile. Neither do I play with games, i'm fullytoo grown.

Anyway, no matter the use, i'd like to get a stable & clean, 'rubbish free' (just the 'window system' & 'window manager', be it wm6.5 or wm6.5.3 - no Linux'es or Androids for the moment) 'top of the tops' UL ROM to add my own SW and, as SpeedFrog suggested, then use SPB Backup to keep "my own" system backup.

your native language is english or chinese or italian (because i haven't met a cooked ROM in other languages). if your lang is rare use official ROMS.

My native lang is spanish, which is not very rare.

Regarding cooking a ROM in a different language, this question is either for you, for SpeedFrog, or whoever may help: Is there any (good) reference on how to "mod" (or cook) a ROM, to a given language?: I wish i could mod the ROM(s) by SpeedFrog (either UL for 6.5 or for 6.5.3) to Spanish lang... I did not dwelve into cooking yet, but i dare say that i should modify the langpack which is embedded into the nb0/mst/mli: I know i can unpack it with Executor or o2util, into a *os.nb, dunno how to convert it to a fully disassembled state in order to mod, mount langpack section & repack ROM. Is it possible to mount a langpack extracted from the MLI into the "*.nb0 cooked ROM"?

Any help on this would be as valuable as (or more than) the request on choosing the best ROM and suggested apps. I know is so preciate that nobody, nowhere (modaco, xda-dev, microsoftother galaxies) shares it... I'm sure there are alternative tools to the ones stated in this forum, that could help on re-creating a ROM with a different lang. Perhaps any among the ones being used for other devices.

Edit: I know there's a hard way to do it, in Jacobn rombuilder post. That's too much work.

about symbianize the lang is philippino but using google/bing translate you will be able to register and download what you need

that was helpful. Edited by gautxori

i never cooked a wm ROM myself. official ROMS fit me. no problems on contrary with most cooked ROMS. i devoted a little on android i8000 ROM development. i am sure speedfrog knows much better about cooking a ROM and help you.

Thanks. I have tested the UL by SpeedFrog, besides my language i miss some features included in the official ROM. Tested 3-4 cooked ROMs, with similar success (some full-less'ness in all of them). I think i'll stick to the JJ1 official one: best for backwards compatibility with old apps. It's a pity that Microsoft does not attend to ipetitions.
