Nexus One update help!

12 posts in this topic

right im basically a noob, recently bought the nexus one of a friends friend who assures me its not rooted but looking at it dont think it is. ill right the specs late on in this opening post. So far im not getting any updates for the phone going into system update says its upto date. currently on 2.2.1 and im aware 2.2.2 and gb is now available on these devices. so tried doing it manually by downloading and saving it to the root of my sdcard but i get this message when im in recovery..

-- install from sd card...

finding update package...

opening update package...

verifying update package...

E:failed to open /sdcard/update.zip (no such file or directory)

E:signature verification failed

installation aborted

have no idea what so ever what this means or whats causing it and can't seem to find any one else with a similar problem on the web. thought it might be the sdcard tried various other sdcards but still same message

my phone's info is:

Android version

2.2.1

Baseband version

32.50.00.32U_5.12.00.08

Kernel version

2.6.32.9-g6624e39

[email protected] #1

Build number

FRG83D

any help from you guys would be much appreciated!

About your bootloader, when you turn on the phone, the splash screen indicates a locked or unlocked bootloader.

Also, when you enter recovery, what does it say? It would say somewhere ClockworkMod or Amon Ra or if its the stock recovery, it'd say something like (3e) at the top

Would you like to update to the newest completely stock gingerbread ROM or are in interested in a custom ROM? Also, do you have any information already on your phone with which you can't part? The easiest way to get you to a stock ROM would include wiping it completely.

No problem at all. I had a lot of help when I first started out with my Nexus. Try downloading the FRG33 files in image format, renaming it PASSIMG.zip making sure not to name it PASSIMG.zip.zip. In Windows, by default, file extensions are hidden and this file already has a zip extension. Once you've renamed it, copy it to the root of your SD card and power off your phone. Download theuniversal update to GRI40, rename it "update.zip" and copy it also to the root of your SD card. Power your phone off, then turn it on while holding volume-down. It should prompt you "update", really meaning it'll restore your phone to stock FRG33. Confirm. It may or may not reboot after the second step of flashing it, depending on the bootloader version you have. If it does reboot, repeat the process again. You should now be on stock FRG33 (Froyo). Reboot into recovery, and tap volume-up and the power button at the same time to show the menu. click the option that says something about flashing "update.zip." and your phone will be updated to the official Gingerbread.

crawler9,

I am trying to update my Nexus one to Gingerbread and follow PCNemy instruction on another thread and change my firmware to 2.1. Is it possible I can follow your instruction here to upgrade my firmware to Gingerbread? Please advise.
