Can someone point out what benefits i would get if i updated my blade to gen2?

However flashing the TPT GEN2 does change the IMEI number - which is bad.

I agree we should not let you everyday user change their IMEI - it leads to fraud.

But we do need to "protect" the IMEI during upgrade from GEN1 to GEN2 or peoples SIMS will stop working (if the provider pairs the IMEI to SIM)

And will just lead to confusion when you phone up orange etc.

No! The only custom ROM (asfaik) that currently works on Gen2 phones are my Swedish Spring RLS4. CM7 can perhaps be made to work on Gen2 phones in the future but at the moment it won't even boot.

Recompiling CM with the new libril stuff (so pulling the whole new proprietary system file bunch), and the new boot offset (re-compiling the kernel) will make it work, but then we need

a, two sets of prop. files

b, two sets of kernels

So we need to modify the Blade updater-script a lot, until everything is updated to Gen2.

Flasher protects IMEI and other uniq data by saving and restoring it in FTM mode.

StevenHarperUK is referring to a service tool that got removed from the forum as it could change IMEI.

Any chance you could look at the t-mobile hungarian flasher too and remove the check it does so we can see if it is possible to downgrade

The flasher overwrites the fields any way, it may be some kind of defensive stuff, but we would need to ask some sweden guys with Gen1 phones who upgraded with these if their IMEI has changed and if yes, what did Tele2/TeliaSoneira/Comviq say about it.

this update does not change imei, rickywyatt used the service tool he found previously with the extracted files, with disastrous consequences.

I used the hacked download.exe and updated my OLED OSF to TeliaSonera 2.2 and the IMEI is still the same.

Oh, and I also replaced recovery.img with the x880 clockwork version in the "files" folder before upgradering and it saved me a lot of trouble because after the upgrade booting into bootloader/fastboot mode is no longer possible (just as it is with all new Blades nowadays).

Also the home+volumeup TPT method seems to be gone.
