Guest Mark Dearlove
Google have announced updates to their Google+ service which include the ability to start a live video Hangout, and easily join an existing Hangout, from within the Google+ Messenger Android app. Other non-Android enhancements include opening up the 'Hangouts on Air' - the ability to record and upload a hangout to YouTube - to a wider user base. More celebs and Google+ users with large followings will be added initially but ultimately this service should open up to everyone. Users will also now be alerted when they are invited to a Hangout whether they are at their desktop or mobile. The chat window will now include a Hangout icon to cycle between text and video chat. Finally Google are updating their Hangout API allowing developers to create effects that overlay the video feed. I look forward to seeing Paul running a Hangout with his face overlaid with the Android Robot! The Android App should be updating over the next 2-3 days.
