We couldn't make it to I/O this year, but thanks to a very kind friend we have a Nexus 7 in our possession... so it's time to #askmodaco!

The Nexus 7 is Google's first 'Nexus' branded foray into the tablet market, offering impressive specs at rock bottom prices (£159 8GB / £199 16GB and $199 8GB / $249 16GB).

We'll be putting the device through it's paces over the coming days in preperation for our full MoDaCo review, but if you have any questions - ask away! :)

You can learn more about the Nexus 7 at the Google product page, also head on over to our new Nexus 7 forum.

Many thanks to mobile applications specialists LineTen for loaning us their Nexus 7 / Q. LineTen's Encappsulate product provides an app for your blog free of charge in return for 1/3 of the advertising space. Interested? Contact LineTen and find out more.

Can you confirm whether it supports Bluetooth Low Energy?

Not that I'm aware of, but I don't know a way to check this. :D

With no Flash in Android 4.1, is BBC iPlayer supported in any way on the Nexus 7? (Need to know as have ordered one for wife's birthday).

Rumours (haven't seen any evidence) that once rooted it can support OTG (On The Go) external storage via a cable.

Root instructions here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1741395 (but I'm sure Paul already on top of this).

So to repeat the question(s) is: After root (and possibly with extra software) does is support external storage via OTG cable?

Cheers

You can instal Flash, it's just not supported!

What USB devices work? External storage support?

None AFAICT.

Can you check if it supports USB On-the-go please, can it detect USB drives?

It doesn't. Yet. I imagine ROM / kernel hacks will add this.

Is the free credit tied to the Google Play store for UK? (I'm in Ireland). Does it run phone or tablet OS?

The credit can be USED anywhere, but whether you'll get it, I don't know! It's a weird phone / tablet hybrid tbh!

Can you see what your daughter thinks of it? Thinking of getting one for my little one :)

She'd love it. :D

Just rooting won't enable OTG.

Bluetooth 2.1 according to the box.

How's the build quality? It's a very cheap tablet!

Very good indeed!

At Google IO we kept seeing them using the Nexus 7 with a USB ethernet dongle as the WiFi was patchy with 6000 geeks there.

Is video out possible, for playing hi def video onto a big TV?

Yeah - I've read conflicting reports - initial suggestions that the micro-usb supported MHL which would (with an adaptor) drive a TV via HDMI, but there was something on the Verge (or somewhere) suggesting this wasn't so

Any definitive word on this?

You know if I knew for sure that USB OTG would work with the NX7 so I could watch media off a USB stick I think I would buy one right away.

Reading all the threads on XDA it seems know one knows for sure if it is going to be possible. Hopefully it is a software limitation that the scene will sort.

Of course usually after a Nexus comes out the manufacturer releases an own brand version with slightly more features so wouldn't at all be surprised is Asus have a slightly more expensive version with micro sd and MHL out in the not too distant future.
