This is always a good thing to know. But it does tell us it will be a little while before we get official. So good news and bad news

I think of it like "Android" for your graphics hardware. Before Windows, Android etc, each phone had its own operating system, but having a common set of rules allows programers to make different UI's/apps etc without having to design a whole new operating system for your phone. Same thing with OpenGL, it is a program with a set of definitions for 2d/3d rendering allowing programmers to take advantage of the graphics hardware on your device.

I think Huawei are confused between OpenGL rendering enablement in ICS and OpenGL drivers within the adreno libs.

ALL adreno libs have OpenGL drivers in them. I think that is what they are referring to.

More specifically in this case the update still supports OpenGL, but not in hardware. It's about providing the version of Android in the update with the drivers, so that rather than doing OpenGL instructions in software (using the CPU, which will be slow) the OS can feed them to the Qualcomm GPU, which can execute them on specially-designed hardware (much faster).

Yeah, anything-but asked the same thing on the Vodafone blog and I tried to add a corrected query, but of course the Vodafone mod didn't post it because lack of 2D acceleration makes them look bad.

Guys, if we're going to ask these questions of vendors, we need to actually ask the right questions.

They have stated it will have OpenGL support and have dodged every single question which specifically asks will it have OpenGL 2.0 hardware accelerated UI.

Vodafone also dodge the question although they already have the ics update and are testing it.

Keep asking and we may get it implemented. The fact that they refer to us getting a demo means bits will be missing and I think UI acceleration will be one of them.

Can someone ask the specific question I posted above on the Vodafone site please.

If we are getting a demo as our uk ics release, we have been mislead. Most of us brought the g300 based on the ics update promised, I wonder how many would of got one if it was known it would not be fully working ics ? Obviously a fully working ICS has opengl, would it be ok if they released a build with only 3G and no wifi working ?

So, apart from the UI and apps being laggy, how can we categorically tell if OpenGL has been used? I ask as Z-Device Test (my phone info app of choice) shows a whole bunch of OpenGL extensions under the Android OS category on my G300 running B927, so if that is not right what do I need to do?

If /system/lib/libhwui.so exists then OpenGL rendering is being used.

Like this ? So are you saying we have opengl rendering then, as some are saying we do not ? Or am I confusing things lol

Not sure.

We're looking into it. Right now we don't know either way.

OpenGL is still dead with the presence of libhwui. It's possible that Huawei intended to enable OpenGL acceleration, it didn't work for some reason, they assumed it was and they didn't notice.

That file is in b926 also. Wondering is swapping that file from a similar spec huawei will work

Remember this post from ages ago. How do these results compare to similar phones. Is this the testing of the openGL?

http://www.glbenchma...estgroup=system

The figures provided are for 3D rendering performance, so they won't tell you anything about software vs hardware performance for 2D UI rendering operations. Presumably, the G300 performs on par with 2nd gen smartphones using the Snapdragon / Adreno 200 combination when it comes to 3D performance.

Does anyone think the lack of OpenGL a reason not to 'upgrade' to the G300, from the blade?

Nope this without openGL is better than a blade with it.
