Random Self-Rebooting each 4-5 days with B926

Hi,

I have a problem with random Self-Rebootings of my phone with B926. I have installed logcat after this happened several times, and today in this morning after self-rebooting I got following log attached.

Can someone have a look on this one? Has anybody have a similar problem like this?

Thanks,

mamudo.

cant see anything in that, but random reboots on stock roms is normally because of poor memory management...

if the phone is failing to free up memory properly it causes random reboots...

the lg optimus 2x had this bad, but is easily fixed with a init.d script

Hi Tillaz,

thank you for your quick reply - this was what I guessd, too - so that means, that I have to restart each 3 or 4 day, right? After restarting I have about 130 Mb free Ram - after 3-4 days it is about 30 or 40 Mb...

is this really a problem?

i mean i usually re-boot my phone every day to ensure smooth running.

if it was re-booting every hour or every couple of hours i can see it being a problem but once every 3-4 days imo is perfectly fine

It could be anything. It looks like the stock kernel doesn't populate /proc/last_kmsg, but you might be able to glean something of use from the output in /data/dontpanic/*

Theres no point speculating on the cause until you've got something to go on. All manner of problems cause hard resets.

i have no more random reboots on my rom after adding a script to handle memory management better,

same on my o2x...

the fact that the random reboots are every 3 or 4 days (with out powering off) makes it obvious its bad memory management (overloading RAM)...

exact same symptoms on the o2x...

i'm not speculating, i'm going off a lot of experience with android... and what i have fixed ;)

Speculation

spec·u·la·tion [spek-yuh-ley-shuhn]

noun

4. conjectural consideration of a matter; conjecture or surmise: a report based on speculation rather than facts.

Pick your synonym - speculation, conjecture, surmise, whatever - you are speculating, be it well informed or otherwise. A kernel panic log dump will shed some light.

ok what ever... even though iv already fixed this in the G300 with a script for memory management,... that's how i'm not speculating

are you even working on anything for the g300 / its community ? or been looking into this matter....

or do you just like to troll its threads lol, taking up peoples time who actually are doing things for the community... like in the guide threads, polls, etc..

lol you are speculating - see above for my fact-tastic answer. You have drawn concluions beyond the limits of the available evidence.

Read about, you'll see I've been fiddling with the kernel and supplied a couple bits and pieces.

But please, don't allow ignorance of my modest contributions prevent you from to launching into an ad hominem! Feel free :)

But back on topic... I'd concur that its likely a memory related issue of some kind. Like you said, the kind-of regular, lengthy interval between hard resets is pretty indicative. I feel no need to divulge my technical background, but suffice to say, I have one and it was, at one stage, professional. Android being what it is, it could be a leaky app. Or, being that this is a beta quality release, it could be that the OS itself is leaking. It could a range of things; one that I understand, one that you understand, one that somene else understands or one that no-one around here can fathom. We don't know, but the clues may be there in the logs I mentioned.

Setting memory thesholds etc may well alleviate the problem, much like a sticky plaster, but applying simple diagnostic methods is no less appropriate... No need for voodoo.

lol your mad you... i fixed the problem and your still blabbing that i'm speculating

didn't you read i FIXED IT with a script to handle memory management... for G300.

6 days testing, heavy usage and no more reboots...

same case in the o2x... but its been a good 6 month since a random reboot.

lol, your posts actually make me laugh, just come here for a debate do you ;)

Hi Tillaz,

is it possible to add your script for memory management to a stock rom, e.g. B926?

Thank you :)

"Doctor, my father 'randomly' passes out about once a week. Whats wrong?"

"Hm, I saw another man do this once. Here, tell him to take this twice a day."

Prognosis, diagnosis, remedy, causality - all the same innit.

just come here for a debate do you

If I did, I'd be sorely disappointed. Pique and an ad hominem attack doesn't really constitute debate. Attempting to engage with you rationally has all but failed thus far.

lol, all i said is how i have fixed this problem...

and all you are doing is trying to say i haven't lol

are you even using a stock ics rom? are you experiencing the same issue? have you checked for your self if its fixed in my rom?

if not, you must just be trolling again...

Dude, the issue was reported at 08:13 yesterday; it manifests every 4-5 days; don't you think its a bit early to claiming that you've successfully it patched up - or even actually resolved - this issue? Simply irrational. The Android ecosystem is pretty wild, its perfectly normal for similar symptoms to be exhibited due to different causes. Time will tell, either way; your voodoo may well be effective in this case.

lol, all i said is how i have fixed this problem...

Ignoring the indignation and peronal attacks above for the moment, yes, thats all you said. And I stated that your conclusion is illogical.

if not, you must just be trolling again...

Perish the thought that you ever try to get one over on a real troll.

dude, this problem was reported over a week ago on my roms thread...

i have had ICS on my phone for about a month now... fully aware of the random reboot problem

so iv had plenty of time to be sure it is fixed.

lol get one over on a real troll... im not trying to get one over on anyone, just telling the OP that iv fixed the problem a while ago in my rom...

OK, lets clarify: Are we discussing the same actual handset, running the exact same ROM? If not, you are confusing prognosis/symptoms with diagnosis/causality. It's really quite simple. But rest assured, I have you down as the go-to man for holistic kernel trephination and runic memory register scrying.

Glad to see you're amused - keep laughing :)

yes, its same rom B926... (my custom rom is based on B926)

obviously its the same handset, that is why we are all posting in g300 forums...

im not even bothered what else you have to say... the main thing is, i know i have no more random reboots

and have fixed the problem the OP was asking about..

Notice the word actual. Read with care. Like I said, this is not post-grad level stuff, mate: The phone could quite conceivably be running a leaky app that results in this symptom. Without any evidence it is hard to say. But I will speculate (and yeah, there is nothing wrong with speculation) that this a definite possibility.

You never listened in the first place, once you'd presumed I was having a go at you. You won't learn anything here because your pride will not allow it. And again, like I said, tweaking the memory management might be an effective salve in this case too, but don't presume to think you've fixed the root cause. Personally, I would not be so full of hubris to presume the guys at Huawei and Google are so incompetent that they cannot set up stable memory management under normal operating conditions. These guys have had to compete very hard to get where they are.

Which leads me post to my first post: If the symptoms continue, the contents of /data/dontpanic might provide some evidence... lol, bejesus.

ahh, what ever...

you don't know what your talking about your not even looking into the problem or using stock ics...

i have been for the last month... and the problem is fixed

your posts are no use here as your not even using ics and looking into the problem, your just speculating

i mean what would you actually know... you have not tested the rom to see if its fixed

huawei are the ones making a mess of these stock roms, not google...

okay lets say you stop for example developing the rom your doing then they would be waiting for some one to make a rom .so they must learn to respect the dev who helps and build s the rom . .just rember its free to them to use and thats it .you spend alot of time doing this freely on your time .you have a life to and need time out for family .i would also say thanks for making the rom.its nice to say thanks.
