WiFi problem on B892

I have been trying various ROM's but have a WiFi problem on B892. It sticks on "Obtaining IP address" and will not connect. I can get it connected using "Static IP address" but there is no data flow.

Any ideas anyone?

are you sure it's a problem with the phone and not the router? Sounds like the router to me.. Try re-starting it, or try connecting to another wifi connection

Not the router. I have restarted it but have been able to connect a laptop and a Samsung Tab with no problems when the G300 will not connect.

Strange?

I had exactly the same problem after downgrading and then getting all the OTA updates. I got all the updates via wifi until I got the B892 update and after this my phone refused to connect to the wifi. I tried everything I could think off but it still wouldn't connect, I would just get 'obtaining IP address' then disconnect. In the end I went back to my previous nandroid backup and the wifi worked again. Not sure of the reason but it sure is a PITA and I don't think it is your router.

Fair enough. I sometimes get those problems and usually its just my router playing up.

I downgraded from ics to b882 today, ota updated to b885 then b892 and my wifi is working fine

Sounds like the update introduced poor drivers for the WLAN. Have you tried removing your router's password temporarily? If it connects, then the phone is having issues with the way it handles key sharing and authentication.

No, didn't do that as I needed data downloads. I had to revert to B886 as I had no Contract data left this month.

Might have another fiddle when my monthly data allowance renews.

#timfimjim. Interested in your comment about downgrading to 882 and then ota to 885 and 892. I did the same but was not able to get to 892 from 885 ota. 882 to 885 ota was ok but had to flash 885 to 892. I wonder if there was something in the flash which caused it?

I've had the same problem after downgrading to B885 then up to B892 from ICS, B892 wifi issues, plus I found all installed roms except B926 have Buggy Apps, crash a lot & have terrible phone signal.

No matter which way you Downgrade or upgrade roms, once you go on B926 your stuck on it! Hopefully not for good?

I'm back on B926 now with Clockwork mod and Google apps .zip file installed.

No more buggy apps, no more wifi issues, no more crap phone signal.

There should be a warning on here, "If you install ICS, there is no going back to stock", you will never get back to a virgin stock rom, not without problems.

But thats just my experience with about 20 rom changes.

I had the exact same problem last night. Decided to go back to stock after flashing ICS last week, then going back to B888 via the IMEI hack. Managed to reinstall B882, then OTA to B885, then a second OTA to B892. Wi-Fi was fine up until the final OTA, the phone flatly refused to connect to my router. Luckily, when i first got the phone i'd made a CWM backup after the initial OTA to B892, so i installed ClockWork Mod and flashed the nandroid backup, Wi-Fi working fine now. As it was mentioned further up this post, it seend there's a bad driver issue, or, as was also mentioned, ICS leaves a footprint on the phone which means a true return to stock isn't possible. I'm leaving well alone for now.
