• Reminder - MoDaCo position on illegal content

ILLEGAL CONTENT I'd like to just reaffirm MoDaCo's position regarding piracy and illegal content in the light of some recent questions / postings. Posts will be censored by myself or my moderation team if the contain or link to: Illegal / pirated / cracked software or sites that host such software
Nintendo emulators / ROMs or sites hosting them (in light of Nintendo's legal stance)

      CUSTOM ROMS

You may discuss and post links to custom device ROMs on MoDaCo, provided the following rules are adhered to: ROMs must not be hosted directly in topic via the MoDaCo attachment system
ROMs must not contain any illegal 3rd party software (this includes trial versions included without permission)
ROMs must give full credit to the original author
This decision has been taken in light of the huge amount of interest in this area of device customisation within the community, and member feedback! Please note that custom ROM discussion should be kept in specific device sub-areas, (e.g. Kaiser.MoDaCo.com for Kaiser based devices). ISSUES If you have any issues with this policy, please contact me directly via PM. P

Hard reboots 3G issue?

I am running ICS but despite trying various kernels I get numerous random reboots a week. They seam to occur when the data network is struggling to cope with demand. I work in an area where there is a reasonable signal but due to congestion calls often fail at peek times.

I am on Orange / T Mogile which shouws as network EE. I toggle wifi off when I leave home.

Current kernel is a Miu one but have tried stock, Omegamoon and other Geno Kolar kernels.

Failed this morning with Logcat running. Does this mean anything to anybody, anyone have a clue? Dont know what this is but gsm_rat_switched sounds like I might have a rodent infestation problem!

great debug info. This affects all custom kernels as far as I know.

Hopefully a solution can be found

Move from B926 to B936 - I had the same problem and this fixed it for me. I had to zero IMEI however, but it worked very well. I believe the B926 baseband is not designed for use in Europe - or there is some incompatibility between U8818 baseband and U8815...
I had no resets since I upgraded to B936 and I had 10-20 resets per day before.
[EDITED]
Note that you not only have to move to B936 - you need to downgrade to Gingerbread [probably using the zero IMEI method] and then upgrade directly to B936 using the middle package and the B936 installation package ... this will overwrite your baseband with the B936 version instead of keeping the B926 baseband.
Downside is you will not get HSPA:11 anymore, but it's a small price to pay (if any) for not having the phone constantly rebooting. Edited by ctrlro

Flashed the 926 RIL and tried enabling always on 3G. Rebooted a couple of times over a four hour period.

Flashed 936 repack zip and 936 RIL. Ok so far after 12 hours. But tends to reboot most around lunchtime or late afternoons so fingers crossed will wait and see.

Kernel debug still enabled. The version of the the driver and firmware for DHD are reported as unchanged. Two difference mac addresses reported during initalisation. But no error reported on COUNTRY GB. So something has changed with the config or initialisation or use of the interface.

Yep rebooted at 14:00

I still get HSPA:11 so probably have not got the 936 firmware.

It still had the following software reported as being 926.

OEMSBL version number
M7x27AV100R001C00B926_BOOT

So may need to downgrade to ginger bread and use the full OTA release to get back to 936. Might try using the downgrade option on the Huawei website. That is unless someone can advise me of another way to install the OEMSBL 936 firmware.

update.app is the way to go. Huawei's downgrade may be useful if a straight swap to B936 doesn't work

I downgraded to Gingerbread yesterday and and upgraded straight to B936 via the Update.app method.
However I still get reboots, had one this morning.

Hmmmmm, can't seam to get an update.app to work for me.

I originally upgraded from GB to ICS 936 and then used repacked zip to get to 934.

If I try to use a 936, 940 or 944 update.app I get failures. errors in the sd_update.log
If I try to downgrade to GB I get an error. I think is it checking what version I am on and finding I am on 934 or 936. Maybe I need to be on a 926 for the downgrade to work.

All the others I have tried are carrier specific ones and all fail, I presume they are checking the carrier and current build. I have even tried switching the SIM from Orange to Vodafone but no luck.

Does anyone have an means of updating the OEMSBL etc. I would like to try the 936 or 944 OEMSBL etc. Although I understand that the firmware upgrade has not yet worked for Asghar.

Otherwise I may try putting a 926 zip on and then try a non carrier specific U8815V100R001C00B934

My OEMSBL version number:

M7x27AV100R001C00B926BOOT

I am guessing that C00 means the general version and not the Vodafone UK one.

The APPSBOOT and APP versions are both C02B936

Unless anyone has a better idea shortly you might want to do the IMEI dance. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1fHCqgv3Erj-IOAHssv20sxVMaphQJiVr3hebq9oQHNo/edit?pli=1

It's pretty safe

Had run last week with the repack of the Vodafone C02B936 and the 936 RIL with stock B936 kernel with the reboots occuring as usual.

Had some time over the weekend so backed up with Clockwork Recovery and did the IMEI restore from the downgrade zip and rebooted with the Vodafone C02B936 Update.app in the SD dload folder. Rooted, installed IMEI, restored IMEI, Unlocked, installed CWM and restored my backup.

Probably should have flashed 940 or 944 to get the latest firmware but now at least on the standard UK Vodafone stuff so will see if it is more stable.

Will switch to a Geno Kolar MIU4 2.10 kernel if this proves stable this week. Edited by Keitel

The phone rebooted today. Once rebooted it could not make or receive calls despite showing that it had a signal. Did a scanned networks and selected the carrier again and it started working again.

Phone, still reboot, maybe as frequently as before. I am wondering whether it is kernel related and not firmware. There has been quite a few updates to the google kernel code, probably most of it for Jelly Bean. A few refering to crashes. But I assume a lot of this code is common, can't see anything obviously related though.

I have the same problem with reboots. I bought mine almost 2 weeks ago and the first thing i did was to install Infusion rom from tillaz here on forum (i followed every step of the install guide from beggins and installed perfectly, OTA update from B02 to B04(944 now)) and it reboots atleast one every other day. I have no extra apps, nothing running in background, most of the time its just pure pocket time, and today i missed an important call cuz its waiting on the enter pin screen from about 12 till 7pm. I live in sweden, use 3G, UMTS:3, baseband 2030, kernel 3.0.8-pref-00245-gf3d97be android@localhost#1. It hasent onces crashed or failed or had dropped call or something "not working" just the hard reboots so i have to enter pin everytime it happens, very annoying.. I still have a couple of days i think before my refund time runs out and i want to be sure i cant fix this before i send it back, because i kinda like the phone itself!

Thanks

Root, put on CWM, backup and then flash this kernel.

http://www.modaco.com/topic/358992-kernel-308-kernel-for-official-ics-roms-19-update-111112/

It mine has not been running for over 41 hours no reboot, including the spooky weekday lunch time crash time.

Keitel, have you definitely solved your problem with this kernel?
I tried this with INFUSION B04, but I still get a few reboots per day, while I'm on 3G of course (UMTS:3, HSDPA:9), and now on the latest CM9.
I went from stock GB with 109808 baseband using this guide http://www.modaco.co...date-root-more/ , so my last update.app was B936. Is there any point to try some other RIL, or something else??? Thanks...

Edit: I followed the pattern today and I noticed that reboots happen when I'm on UMTS:3, while I'm on HSDPA:9 I didn't have reboots.

Could it be b944 causing the reboot?

I had one reboot with 936 OTA and Pauls #19 kernel over about three days. It seamed very stable. I never had a Wifi issue with OEM, or Pauls Kernel

Since then I have switched to CM9 and have had three reboots in less than one day. Had a couple of WIFI hangs also but I think that is a known issue.

I may go back to 936 / Pauls #19.
