View using Google Chrome for 'instant translation'

http://bbs.lewaos.co...?mod=mtk&gid=85

I found this while looking for more for Jiayu G2, specifically installing a recovery, looks promising:

http://bbs.lewaos.co...iayu_g2h.html#1

http://bbs.lewaos.co...php?rom=release It appears that the 1G RAM version is referred to as G2H or 'Standard edition' while the 512K RAM version is G2L or 'Popular edition', I confirm that mine says G2H in 'about phone > build number'

Yes, Lewa recovery works (and it's in English) - looks like a 'skinned' TWRP (have also seen a Chinese TWRP and CWM on the Jiayu site).

For some reason the camera stopped working after installing recovery but a factory reset restored everything to working order so I installed my apps etc. and made a backup.

Using Chrome on my laptop for the translation it's easy enough to sign up for an account for both Lewa http://bbs.lewaos.com/forum.php and Jiayu http://bbs.ejiayu.com/forum.php

I tried the Rood Guide by aaroNiGHTS but could not get that to work so rooted successfully using the 'one click' method but it was then I found I had no recovery so I have since followed the LeWa guide and successfully installed recovery - I believe this also roots if not root already.

The most difficult part for me was the driver,LeWa method seems best for this.

look at this... this is the updater-script of the G2S-MTK6577-*-Root.zip...

http://pastebin.com/J6NuEY7h

omitting the ui_prints and the stage where it removes the jiayu apps you get

assert(package_extract_file("boot.img", "/tmp/boot.img"),

	 write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img", "bootimg"),

	 delete("/tmp/boot.img"));

mount("ext4", "EMMC", "/dev/block/mmcblk0p3", "/system");

set_perm_recursive(0, 2000, 0755, 0755, "/system/xbin");

package_extract_dir("system", "/system");

set_perm(0, 0, 0644, "/system/app/Superuser.apk");

set_perm(0, 0, 06755, "/system/xbin/su");

set_perm(0, 0, 04755, "/system/bin/bash");

set_perm(0, 2000, 04755, "/system/bin/busybox");

unmount("/system");

that's all what seems to need to root the phone, it's easy and I think it could be done by the "update system" app...

the only thing I can't understand is why is it flashing the kernel... won't it work with the custom kernel built-in?

Al_1604, got a question. I tried flash recovery or root these two methods that you mentioned but none of it didn't work. To flash lewa recovery should I follow this guide? http://bbs.lewaos.co...iayu_g2h.html#1

-edit-

Ok nevermind. I've done it. First, flashing the lewa recovery, after flashing the MTK6577_Universal_Root.zip.

I was just reading this:

http://techideki.com/jiayu-g3-official-firmware-update-g3-20121129-082828/

The chap says that kernel sources for the MTK 6577 chip are now made public.

Would this mean that there is potential for ROM development on the G2?

Also, on a side note. Can anyone comment on GPS lock on times? Takes ages for me. :-/
