r1 - Customised recovery image for the Asus Padfone 2

Now that i've unlocked the bootloader on my Padfone 2, i've been looking into getting ClockworkMod or TWRP up and running. So far, I haven't managed to get these working however I do want to start enabling people to develop custom ROMs, so I have created a modified version of the stock recovery.

Points to note...

- this is a first initial release - i've flashed a test zip myself, but it is still in testing

- this recovery is 'insecure' (you can get root ADB)

- the keys for the recovery are changed to test keys - you can flash any test signed zips

- this recovery will no longer flash Asus signed update zips

- busybox is included

- the fstab file contains the main required mounts (system, data, cache)

The zip file includes both the custom recovery and a stock recovery allowing you to revert if you choose. The image should be flashed via fastboot while in bootloader using 'fastboot flash recovery recovery.modaco.r1.img'. If you'd prefer to just boot it, you can use 'fastboot boot recovery.modaco.r1.img'.

Note that you use this at your own risk!

The standard system will overwrite the recovery partition on boot, you need to delete the file recovery-from-boot.p in /system/etc to prevent this happening.

Enjoy! :)

sorry about the n00b question

just sent recovery through command 'fastboot boot recovery.modaco.r1.img'', file was at right place.

how can I get into recovery manually?

edit ------------------------------------

got the answer on XDA already

Enter CWM Recovery: VOL DOWN + POWER

Enter Fasboot MODE: VOL UP + POWER

Hey Paul,

Gave a try flashing modded recovery to the phone, then tried to install your deodexed and pre-mcr without success.

Now want to revert back to stock recovery but I can't, look below:

recovery.jpg

file is at the right place but command 'fastboot flash recovery.stock.img' gaves me an error above.

flash fails but it boots ok.

any ideas?

I would like to update to your pre-mcd wwe latest rom.

Hi PaulOBrien,

thanks for the recovery.

Is it for both Padfone 2 32 and 64 GB?

And when I wipe Data, also the SDCARD is empty.

Please exclude /data/media from the Delete.

For both.

The wipe can't be changed yet as it's the stock Recovery binary.

Tks for the help, now I got that I forgot to type the partition name (recovery), damn!!

For now, I'm already on latest fw (downloaded directly from asus website) rooted with SuperBoot script from Paul. I'll not give a try anymore on modded recvery, until some update appears on the scene.

Hi rafael_mfr,

the command is wrong.

fastboot flash recovery recovery.stock.img

This shuld work ;-)

"The standard system will overwrite the recovery partition on boot, you need to delete the file recovery-from-boot.p in /system/etc to prevent this happening."

Can you just confirm what one needs to go?

recovery-from-boot.p is just in system

install-recovery.sh is in system/etc
