FWIW...I disabled Y5 Battery Saver and overnight I see that my wifi is constantly on during sleep even with Wifi on during sleep = Never.

Don't know if that's a kernel thing or something? I never checked this issue when running other ROMs.

I'm using deep sleep battery saver []http://forum.xda-dev....php?t=2030696] - wifi turns off automatically during sleep.

And toggles it on again after the giving time interval.

I really don't find turning wifi off makes much difference at all. If I'm going to be out somewhere all day, I might turn it off, but in general I just forget about it. That's the same on my wife's Galaxy Ace and on my tablet too.

Perhaps....

but should the setting not do what it is supposed to do?

It does on Stock GB.

And the reason I implemented it there was precisely to stop Battery Drain during sleep, [mobile data is also off] .

It definitely made a difference showing huge chunk of Deep Sleep overnight on CPU Spy.

But after disable all data you dont recive whatsapp ect.

So there is no more sense for a SMART Mobile Phone

Well, if you're sleeping anyway you cannot read those messages. When I'm studying or something I tend to auto-toggle my data (wifi) on every 30 minutes or an hour so I will not constantly get notifications of new e-mail or chat messages. None of them will be that urgent otherwise they can always call me ;)

I leave my wifi on, overnight the phone drops maybe 5%. Don't know what it would be without it on, but it really doesnt seem worth the bother to me.

Probably 0-2%.. Not that much difference indeed. (And this is with airplane mode)

Interesting thought: If you turn your data on regularly, the same actual data/notifications/emails will come down to your phone as if you'd left the data on in the first place. The only difference is going to be the 'heartbeat' to keep the polling alive, which is pretty negligible, and turning the data on and off is causing re-establishment of the connections to check for new messages etc anyway, and so actually generating more data traffic. That is of course assuming that the actual traffic contributes a significant portion of the battery drain for mobile data - personally, I don't see any noticeable difference in battery drain with data on or off - but then again, it's a smartphone - its supposed to be data-connected all the time unless you turn it off, surely?

Not sure if I get you correctly - but all I wanted to say was that in my case when I sleep I don't want to be disturbed with notifications and in that case can easily save some battery by turning of all data, right? Also when I'm working/studying I can't afford to be distracted all the time by the flashing notification light - so again - it's at the same time an easy way to save some battery when only toggling on wifi for 1 minute every 30 minutes or hour..

(But this is all just a personal choice of wanting to boost battery life maybe another couple of hours without the need to charge)

What do you use? Llama or Tasker or something like that?

Version 1.81, using custom settings, more or less the same as the 'gentle' modus. But unlike you I do not notice any loss of performance? Using this on Stock+.

Oops - sorry - didn't twig that you were using DSBS to toggle.

It slowed CM10.1 down for me but then CM10.1 was also starting to lag anyway.

I might give DSBS another go at some stage.

Thanks.

Although sometimes when looking at battery stats I notice that DSBS had some trouble by turning off wifi again after toggling it on. For example, when having settings: 1 hour off then 1 minute on and off again - it looks like wifi was on for ~15 minutes before it was turned off again.

Might do a log later to see if I can capture the problem but didn't bother yet ;)

I use lightflow to manage all my notifications - so get no sounds or leds at night. During the day, if I'm in a meeting I put the phone on silent. If I don't want to see LEDs, I leave it in my pocket or face down.

Thanks TT, dalyer and others.

I guess what I really am getting at is....

this feature is in Wifi advanced settings, and it really should work as described....IMO.

I use it on my own Galaxy SIII!! and other devices, like my cheap Chinese tablet on CM9....

so it is not unknown.

If ppl have an alternative method, or don't want or need to use this method, it's OK.

Folks have different needs and expectations.

But settings are settings, and they should work as they does on Stock.

How about it Cyda?

It does not diminish the ROM in any way, just a slight inconvenience.

A quick Google suggests that wifi staying on (at least according to the built in battery meter/stats) even when "Keep wifi on during sleep" = "Never" is a common enough problem notwithstanding the fact that it may have worked for you on other devices (or even other ROMs on this device?). For example:

http://forums.androi...sleep-mode.html

http://forums.androi...sleep-mode.html

http://forums.androi...wifi-stays.html

(And lots more besides)

Any chance this is relevant?!?

Or this?

Oh, I know it is common, it never worked with custom ROM's on my old ZTE Blade, for instance.

I just find it kinda strange that peeps, not yourself mind, would react with something like...[not direct quoting anyone]

Well, I never use that feature, so why would you need it

I could just as well say to someone who complains about No Mobile Data in any fictional ROM, for instance

sure I never use that, why would you want it??
....doh!!

I know, it's a silly example, but mobile data is considered an indispensible feature of any ROM....and yet, some people never use it, like me.....

cos of where I live!!!! In the Sticks!!!

I could use Auto Airplane Mode for screen off, but, I want to be able to receive calls!!

OK guys, found a simple demo app, which functions just to switch off WiFi on screen off, whether timed or manually.

Long Battery Life Demo

It has more functions in paid-for, but the demo will suffice to do what is missing here.

The option for a delayed disconnect is not there, so it is immediate.

It's in the paid version.

Now, maybe this will use more battery by switching off-on wifi, but overnight I will check and see, perhaps show CPU spy Stats, and Battery Stats, etc

Got this from thread suggested by dalyer earlier here

Thanks man

Cheers.

See if this can help someone. It's for wifi but being open source I don't see what can stop a skillful programer from adding an option for 3G.

I can understand why some prefer network on when the phone is off, maybe they expect some mail or message but there should always be a choice.

That's a great app zece....

Thanks!!

There is a lot in it and you need to have regard to how to use "expert mode".

Lotta stuff there..

It knocks Long Battery Life out of the park... IMO

@Cyda

Tried one of the new chinese roms today, and the latest version of iPlayer worked in that, so it would seem that the app itself isn't broken.
