giffgaff reveal their 4G pricing

giffgaff are one of the most popular MVNO (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) around due to their exceptional 3G tariffs and strong national presence using the O2 network as their backbone.

They have bided their time with regards 4G, but the wait is over as their Blog has announced pricing and a release date of "early April" for their LTE service.

New 4G Tariffs

  • £10: 1GB, 500 mins, unlimited texts (existing members only)
  • £10, 1GB, 250 mins, unlimited texts
  • £12, 2GB, 250 mins, unlimited texts
  • £15, 2GB, 500 mins, unlimited texts
Existing 3G Tariffs (pricing won't change on these)
  • £10, 1GB, 500 mins, unlimited texts, free giffgaff to giffgaff
  • £12, unlimited internet, 250 mins, unlimited texts, free giffgaff to giffgaff
  • £15, unlimited internet, 500 mins, unlimited texts, free giffgaff to giffgaff
  • £20, unlimited internet, 2000 mins, unlimited texts, free giffgaff to giffgaff
To start with though giffgaff say that the 4G offering won't be going on general sale, but will start as a member only trial. Which they say is open to anyone who joins giffgaff up to and including the public release.

So it sounds like anyone who joins now can take up the 4G trial if they so wish.

Sign up here: giffgaff sign-up and you'll get £5 extra credit for free when you activate your SIM.

But with Three offering unlimited data plans on sim only monthly contracts from just £12.90, its hard to see the value here with what giffgaff have announced. Especially when their £12 unlimited 3G plan was so popular.

Existing Giffgaff members are already venting their spleens over on the giffgaff forum, what do you think?

If you're an existing giffgaff user, do you think you'll be getting your PAC code and heading over to Three?

Or do you have an alternative 4G option you can recommend?

Tad disappointed here. All the reasons above are true. 2GB limit on 4G just isn't appealing to me at all when I have unlimited at the moment I may not average a lot more than 2GB, but being limited would just annoy me when I have freedom at the moment to not worry those odd months when I excess my 3GB average.

Giffgaff ought to work on getting *3G* to work first; why run when you can't even walk yet?

15 quid for an amount of data you could burn through in minutes at 4g speeds, whats the point?

Its all very well being able to stream hd video or whatever to your phone, but when buying the dvd would be cheaper than streaming it, it renders the entire thing a pointless waste of money.

There is just no reason to upgrade from 3g/3g+ at the moment, its plenty fast enough for most tasks, and a shedload cheaper.

Holland seem lucky with 4g as it comes free with contracts and is faster than my home wifi , which is why i got a vodafone nl contract for around 40 pounds with unlimited calls and sms and 6gb of data , cool on my htc one , the uk should follow the dutch on this as it makes people upgrade their contacts and not hold on to older contracts.

I'm sure the cost to 3rd providers of offering 4G is no greater than that of offering 3G especially as these providers Giff-Gaff and the like, are devoid of the setup costs of the big 3 (O2, Vodaphone and EE).
I think at times these companies play the "It's new technology so therefore we can charge more regardless of costs to ourselves", game.
Similar to 3G on initial release ridiculous costs at the start.

Currently I am searching for alternatives to Giff-Gaff as their deals are no longer an attractive alternative

Try 3 network. Their 321 PAYG sim is cheaper than GiffGaff and 4G at no extra cost when and where available. I think most ex-OVIVO customers (myself included) have moved to 3 instead of GiffGaff.
