@dalyer Yes, for some reason batteries don't seem to last long in my F1.

 

I'm onto my third replacement battery - they all end up bloating and suddenly cutting the power.  The current one is bulging quite a bit, putting pressure on the screen causing it to bend.  Other smartphones don't seem to destroy batteries like this one does!

Do you know if they are clamping down on import tax on stuff coming in from China these days? I've been hit recently by stuff coming from the US :(

Regarding import taxes/duties I'm not sure what the story is (at least here in Ireland) but I recently ordered a Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 to replace my Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 which I am passing on to somebody else and I will probably find out soon if that gets stopped. :-)

Ha ha - wouldn't you know it - I got caught this time and had to pay an extra €50 (€40 VAT + €10 post office handling fee) on delivery.

Bit of a bummer but still cheaper than buying locally (a few places now stock Xiaomi phones including the Note 5 here in Dublin nowadays).

However a colleague said that he imported a load of 3D printer parts and they got through OK but then he got an additional small part in an envelope which was stopped and charged.

So it looks like it's still pot luck but I presume that they're wiser to packages coming from the likes of China/HK etc. these days and are more likely to pick them out for inspection...?

 

BTW - apologies @KennyPowers for the delay in sending the battery - definitely this week. P&P seems to be only €1.50 so don't worry about it.

@Jpower73, does on any of your ROMs or other ROMs you've tested, camera work in other apps, like Snapchat, Musically (TicTok),... ?

I have prepared mine F1 (still with AOSP 6.0.1 so far) for my daugher, but she's got disappointed that camera didn't work in any of those apps and it's been a reason to use this phone, because her Coolpad Modena has too weak CPU (awfully laggy) to handle these apps.

Flashed Atomic OS with old TWRP 3.0.2.0 today. Got an error about unknown command "[]]]" at the end of flashing (AEX Lite didn't have any errors on flashing), but it works fine for now.

My daughter is still testing it, but first impression is great - no lags, everything seems to work fine, including all her apps which she wanted to use.

In few hours of use, it hit one random reboot.

 

What's the best solution for using external sdcard for apps on Android 7.1.2?

This Atomic OS is really great. I had a long break since trying different ROMs on F1 last time but I haven't seen such flawlessly working ROM since stock.

If I had it before I changed my phone, I wouldn't change it. F1 now works better than my LeTV Le Pro 3 with Snapdragon 820.

@xeros2 Curious to know if the phone GPS (offline) works well with that ROM.

 

I had to stay with older KitKat based ROMs, because whenever I went higher than KitKat the GPS wouldn't work well enough for satnav apps.

Well, I have online GPS tracking and just checked - no problems at all, all tracks have been recorded successfully and accurately.

I think I'll stick with this older MIUI 7 rom now everything is working 100%. Until apps stop working because they need higher than KitKat, for me it's the best choice currently.

 

Actually MIUI has grown on me, quite like it. Is there a decent Xiaomi phone around the £100/€120 mark? I did read somewhere the bootloader is locked down on Xiaomi phones, so would be stuck with vendor rom.

I can't remember what the best Xiaomi phone in the €120 range is but there's definitely something at that price point.

Note that on most or all Xiaomi phones the bootloader is unlocked but can be unlocked officially by using the Xiaomi tool and instructions.

So generally you can install TWRP, root and install a custom ROM if you prefer that to MIUI.

I liked MIUI for a long time but now I find that it contains too much bloat/crap/adware so I'm moving back towards LineageOS.

I installed LineageOS on my son's new Redmi Note 5 recently.

Note that some Xiaomi (and other?) phones may have ARB (https://www.xda-developers.com/xiaomi-anti-rollback-protection-brick-phone/) so you want to avoid such an update if you want freedom to install certain ROMs.
