Budget devices have come a long way since the ZTE Blade - arguably the first budget device to really shake up the market and prove that you don't need to spend a fortune to get a great Android experience. Since those days we have seen agressively priced devices from many manufacturers hit the budget market - some bad, some great - but it wasn't really until Motorola dropped the Moto G on the market that we really saw the first device that offered high performance at a budget price.

Since then we have seen many manufacturers take the low cost market a lot more seriously and start to produce devices that offer fantastic specifications. High Definition displays, bags of storage, quad core processors - features you would expect to find only in mid to high end devices - are all appearing in devices that cost as little at £200. This year we have seen some new and exciting devices launched that have already generated a lot of buzz around the communities. We have a selection of devices to compare with each other as well as providing some of our initial thoughts and over the next few weeks we give each device a thorough review.

The most expensive device out of the four but offering fantastic hardware specifications considering the price. The Snapdragon 615 quad-core processor backed up with 2GB RAM helps the device perform very well at all times, no doubt helped by running the latest version of Android. The price makes this an absolute bargain.

Honor Holly - RRP £89.99

A great device for those looking for dual sim capability. Quad core processor helps speed things along but the 1GB RAM may become a bottleneck. Nice to see expandable storage with 16GB built-in for all your apps and files. A nice device for younger people but we would like to have seen 4G. Cheapest of the 4 we have here.

Huawei Ascend G7 - RRP £199.99

A beautiful looking device that gives a premium feel for a budget price. 2GB RAM help speed things along, a generous 16GB storage space provides room for all your apps and files and the expandable storage is very welcome indeed. Motorola Moto E 2nd generation LTE - RRP £100

CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 Quad-Core 1.2GHz Cortex A53

Memory/Storage: 1GB RAM, 8GB ROM, microSD expandable

Camera: 5MP rear camera, VGA front camera

Display: 540x960 IPS LCD

OS: Android 5.0.2 Lollipop

Connectivity: micro SIM, LTE CAT4, Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11n WiFi, GPS

Battery: 2390 mAh

The long-awaited successor to the original Moto E which managed to make it's big brother the Moto G seem expensive. This new version packs a newer processor to boost performance as well as bumping the small 4GB storage to a more usable 8GB. The addition of 4G makes this a device worth considering.

Alcatel Idol X+ seems to be getting a bit of attention at £170 and has a decent spec.

It's great to see these devices coming through. I'm done with locking myself in to long and expensive contracts just to get a decent phone.

Thought the honour holly was up for £75, or do you know something about its back in stock price.

Also think the honour 3c looks a good spec for £110 and not ugly either.

Meh, id take a Xiaomi Redmi 2  or Meizu M1 Note over these anyday. Don't really fancy a display under 300 PPI either. That Moto E is criminally ugly

Yeah I'll be doing a similar article on the Chinese devices soon.

Just seen CPW are now selling the Ascend G7.. for £199.99. So much for the £149.99 price point that was reported.
