Honor, Huawei's 'digital native' sub brand, is coming to the US... finally launching in a territory where the spelling of its name makes sense. The first phone to be launched over the pond is not the current flagship, the Honor 7, but a mid-range device carrying the 5X moniker, which will sell for an impressive $199 SIM free at HiHonor.com, Amazon and NewEgg.

Previously announced for China, the 5X is an impressive device both in design and specifications given the price point. Specs include...

  • Android 5.1 with EMUI 3.1
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 615 Octa-Core process (4x1.5GHz+4x1.2GHz) with Adreno 405 GPU
  • 2GB RAM
  • 16GB ROM
  • microSD expansion
  • Dual SIM dual standby support - LTE FDD:B2/B4/B5/B12/B17 WCDMA:B1/B2/B4/B5 GSM:850/900/1800/1900MHz
  • 5.5 inch Full HD IPS screen
  • 13 Megapixel rear camera with a F2.0 aperture and 28 mm wide angle lens
  • 5 Megapixel front facing camera with a F2.4 aperture, 22 mm wide-angle lens and beauty shot
  • 2.4GHz WiFi
  • Bluetooth 4.1
  • Aluminium construction
  • Fingerprint reader
  • 3000 mAh battery
  • 151.3 mm x 76.3mm x 8.15mm
  • 158g
  • Available in Gold, White, and Gray

The biggest omission for the spec sheet, particularly for the US where Android Pay is launched, is probably NFC. But that aside, it looks pretty great with build quality that is rare at this price point. There's no word on whether the device will get a European release as yet, but here's hoping. We're big Honor fans at MoDaCo!

The Honor 5X can be pre-ordered from January 6th and ships January 31st. Head on over to the product page for more details.
