Enable encryption on rooted device?

Hi,

with TWRP installed, the internal storage of the Honor 8 is obviously no longer encrypted (not sure if it ever was, though).

I wonder if anybody knows how to enable encryption of the internal storage, which is the default in stock android. I tried wiping/factory resetting the device and almost anything else I can think of - to no avail.

The Honor 8 settings do not offer the "Encrypt internal storage" option that stock Android has. But you can bring it up using "Activity Laucher", it does not seem to work though. Any help would be appreciated!
